After a very hot day, managed to get onto the ferry without much fuss, having had a chat with a couple returning their ancient (F Reg) van back to the UK. A long story, but when they dock in Dover they'll have no MOT, tax or insurance & possibly no registered number plate as they'd originally exported it a year ago...best of luck with that one!
Have you ever slept in a very hot box (Billy) in a hot box (car deck) inside a ship? Well we have & it's not very pleasant, in fact it was pretty horrid but at least we got some sleep. Then it took us 2 hours to get out of the port with the normal OTT bureaucracy, rubber stamps, pieces of paper etc – we nearly escaped but were sent back in for not having the correct officer's signature despite the fact he told us we could go in the first place...hey ho
But guess what? Our friendly lorry driver was there waiting to get on the ferry back to Cyprus! Neither of us could quite believe it; he introduced us to his daughters (? 25 & 15) & they were just stunning
& thankfully didn't have his teeth or flea bites.
We were going to stay again at the Paradies site in Anamur but decided to press on to Alanya. Whilst the large town is a major holiday draw for all nationalities, especially Russians, the site is away from the main drag & OK but the beach & sea are wonderful. They have peacocks running about & we have never seen so many different types of fish ready to be cooked for the evening in the restaurant. So, the chicken we bought for tonight is in the freezer & we dined out after a swim in the very warm sea...
The food was plentiful & excellent – we ate sea bass listening to waves on the pebbly beach, jolly nice. Early night as just pooped.
