Charming Bruges

We slept in this morning after some long days of traveling and somewhere along the way, I think we lost a day. We spent the day in Bruges and I love it. We ran into my Aunt Mary and Cousin Chandler after we finished getting ready…about 12:30pm, then went on a local walking tour of the market and some side roads for shopping. Since Mary and Chandler had just gotten in, they were pretty hungry and tired. First actual stop of the day was at a Belgium bar called Bierbrasserie Cambrinus where we just HAD TO have Belgium beer (yum yum)(over 400 to choose from) and some local cuisine. Just so you know, hamburgers are included in the local cuisine, along with French fries in mayonnaise. We walked around the market and down the street of chocolatiers where we again, HAD TO make some purchases! The architecture is wonderful in almost all of the buildings and the pitch of many or the roofs are in sane! I can’t imagine who they get to do the roofs around here!



A little later, the tour group (Grand Circle Tours) met for dinner at a lovely restaurant where again, we just HAD TO have more beer and of course, a delicious dinner. Chandler did not join us for dinner but Mary, Mom, and I went. There was Flemish Stew, Flemish Rabbit, and Mussels. I was going to step outside the comfort zone with rabbit until I heard it was the leg of the rabbit and still on the bone. I had to take a pass and went with the mussels. Very good choice. Mom and Mary had the beef stew which was also delicious. There were also cheese croquettes (warm, creamy cheese that is breaded and deep fried) along with more French fries and chocolate mousse. The walk home was rainy but we had such a good time.



Chandler was awake and hungry when we got back. So… not wanting to be a party pooper, I went down to the hotel restaurant with Mary and Chandler to get her some food and Mary and I opted for drinks. Had a wonderful time! Lots of fun and lots of laughs in such a wonderful and magical place! Still having a hard time realizing that I’m really here. Loving it!
