Today is the first day of my trip. Mom and Dad (chauffer) showed up 15 minutes early!! They apparently don’t understand what 15 minutes can do to a finely tuned schedule!! We got off to the airport without a hitch but when we got to the airport they not only weighed our check in luggage, but our carry-ons and our purses. So much for out-smarting the luggage police. Luckily, we had a very sweet attendant and she let us through with some questionable luggage. They were weighed in grams, which totally threw me for a loop. I have not yet learned the conversions of the metric system, although it makes more sense!
The flight was long but we finally landed in Frankfurt, Germany and had a couple hour layover enjoyed with a German pretzel. Then off to Brussels, Belgium where Mom and I decided we were exhausted! We then had to find the train station which was not too difficult. We took the train from Brussels to Bruges, however they call and pronounce it Brugge (sounds like Brugga) here locally, so we almost didn’t get off! Luckily Mom was alert enough and had the sense to get off
at that stop, and Viola! We were where we needed to be! We caught a taxi to the hotel which is on a quaint little street with tall skinny houses and steep roofs. The streets are of old cobblestone which was fun with our roller bags! We decided we could star in our own movie of Trains, Planes, and Automobiles although not near as funny or profitable.
We are staying at the beautiful NH Bruges where we proceeded to go to the hotel restaurant and get a good old fashioned American hamburger with fries for dinner. Then off to a 10 hour slumber! There is an 8 hour difference from here to Colorado. So, as I’m typing at 8:00 in the morning, it’s just turned the bewitching hour of midnight to all the folks in Colorado.
