My journey begins in 7 days and I am now tying lose ends together. Called my banks and found out cheapest ATM rates,...there aren't any! Chase charges 3% of any transaction and $5 cash out of the ATM machine and so does Wells Fargo. I believe I will carry money this time when I leave, which is not a normal practice for me! I always use the ATM's and never paid much attention to rates. Trying to go cheap this time so I can do more and travel more on the money I am putting aside for travel. Anyway, I found out Discover doesn't charge anything on International purchases but it is not accepted everywhere. So for a backup, my USAA master card only charges 1% on purchases. I also checked with my phone company, SPRINT. It seems that texting is the best thing to do at 50 cents a text verses $5 a minute on calls and $19 a minute on data! If it is an incoming text it is only 20 cents. If I go WiFi it is free. That also applies to my notebook WiFi free and data I will have to mortgage the house! Then I checked the weather for packing my clothes. I will be going into Bangkok Thailand , then to Krabi, then to Nepal, then back to Bangkok. It is 100 degrees to 90 degrees in Thailand and 70 to 40 in Nepal. That makes a bit of a problem for the clothes to take! I decided that this trip I will travel extremely light and buy clothes along the way! In Thailand there will be no need for much except a bathing suit and long board shorts with a t-shirt for inside the monastery, a long skirt and a summer top and I am set! Then for Nepal a pair of jeans and a top with a sweatshirt and call it a day! I just need a small backpack for my cosmetics, gifts for my hosts, any vitamins or medicine like Imodium or aspirin, my camera, chargers, electric converter plugs, notebook , passport, and a book to read on the plane, written by a woman I met at a Hollywood party!
I am already feeling like I messed up on the schedule because I am only staying until the end of the month! That is almost 3 weeks but heck, I am in Asia and won't get there often! I would stay for April but already have a cruise paid for with my son and his dad and his wife and her parents, to the Caribbean. Wish that would have worked out differently! I am going to Thailand on these dates to join a girl friend of mine, Megan and 3 others on a private Thailand tour. We will be traveling around off the beaten path and staying in floating cottages, tree houses, going to private islands and inside Monasteries. I am excited to go with someone I know for the first part of the journey. I am not afraid to travel alone but have never been too Asia before and am a bit nervous to be alone. I will be alone on the last week though so we will see what happens! I am 57 years old and a female. Most people think that is crazy. I think it is an adventure!
