Surfs Up
CB Surf Club I decided to keep exploring the area. I have done Beach Road numerous times and found a cute little shop called Jungle Fever, where I am sure I will frequent often. I was told Port Noarlunga had a bunch of cute shops so I made my way there. I walked along the beach and cliff side it took about thirty minutes and it was a cloudy day so it was a little cooler, but I still managed to get burnt. I have realized now that people interpret many shops as very little shops. There was next to nothing there, but the Jetty was a nice walk out and apparently there is great snorkeling there.
Next on the list, my new school. Andrew was nice enough to offer to take me to school Tuesday morning, and offered to give me rides as long as I needed them. I was very grateful for that. It is a large school with lots of outdoor space for PE, basketball courts, tennis courts and a gym twice the size of ours. All that I met greeted me with a loud, hands in the air, “Hi Mel!” He gave me a tour of the PE offices
Cliff Side
On the way to Port Noarlunga and staffroom and a brief rundown on how things work. I was listening but was slightly distracted by the fact that they have a pool room in the staffroom and the many giant Cockatoo looking birds nosily jabbering in the trees outside, kinda felt like an Alfred Hitchcock movie. Well I don't think Andrew knew what he was getting himself into today outside of the trip to school I got an education on the locks, how to change the battery on a beeping fire alarm, the cool air system and how it works, and the dreaded garage. Lawnmower is in check and close to the door away from the dark corners where spiders may be.
Upon my return I had great fish ‘n’ chips from the Ripple and Swirl café and just as I finished a phone call, which is rare for me. I always answer the phone not knowing what I am getting myself into. I also get into random strangers cars hoping that they are the right person that I am meant to be going with. It sort of feels like a blind date situation, they don’t know me and I don’t know them. I have always
lucked out and it has been the right vehicle and although you never know if it’s going to be awkward, it has yet to be. It turns out it is Ben’s good friend Lisa; her and her boyfriend Jake just live down the road. She asked me over and so Jake picked me up.
Lisa and Jake are lovely people and I am so glad that they reached out to me. Their house is very cute, similar tastes to me and she also reclaims furniture. We hit it off and I felt as though I had known them for a long time. Lisa showed me her chooks that they just got and I met their dog Milly. I also met Jake's dad, his brother Andy and girlfriend Somer as well as his grandparents. Lisa put out a nice spread, we had some Moscato, and they were kind enough to include me in their dinner plans at Fuse! Such a great family and they made me feel welcome and very comfortable. I was also lucky enough to get an Australia Day BBQ invite. We returned to Jake and Lisa’s where we had a jazz like ambiance and my first experience
Jetty
Port Noarlunga Jetty which apparently has outstanding snorkelling which I need to check out. with Cognac, probably my last lol! Such a great night and again very thankful that Ben’s friends have been reaching out to me.
I decided to take the bus (yup the 734 yet again) to Westfield Marion Centre to hit the Westpac . You can only deposit money into an ATM if it attached to a branch. I had my first experience at Bunnings, which is similar to Ron, came home and put my big girl pants on and ventured into the garage to get the lawn mower and cut the grass. Wednesday night is Quiz night at the local hotel so I headed there to meet a fellow Canadian; well sort of, she has been here since she was 15, Teresa. She frequents here for quiz night with her friends and her family. One of her mates spent time in Calgary and we had a mutual friend-small world! I also met her American friend, kinda, sorta, she’s been here for years, Lisa. I really enjoyed getting to meet them and was hoping to spend more time with them.
