So here it is.... the final curtain of being here in Australia.
On Sunday night after a wild Saturday party we left Melbourne and flew to Sydney. Starting our night at Bambu where we didn't pay for a single drink, even drinking Tanqueray G&T's, and I was able to say goodbye to Joe who helped me find my feet in Melbourne by not only hiring me for a couple of shifts but also getting me the job at Trader Bar. We then moved on to Trader Bar where once again we didn't buy a single beverage it was all given for free and included a whole mixture and variety of flavours and excitement! We had a great time there and had to say some emotional goodbyes. I have to say a huge thankyou to Darin... even with his stories of old, he has been an awesome manager and given and done so much for me, I really appreciate it! He even snuck $100 into my hand before I left "buy something pretty" he said... I can't thankyou enough!
After some fun with drinks and some flat bread we moved onto 161 to once again get more free drinks and where the
night would come to an eventual end. Why the hell we are leaving when we have all these contacts and hook-ups I have no idea, it hurts inside!! It really was a great night and a fantastic way to say goodbye to some fantastic people! Adam, Kim, Kenny and Es you've been awesome people to get to know! I was so very close to shedding a tear when I left you guys Adam and Kim, awesome people!!!
A massive hangover at 5pm we awake to get fully packed before catching our JetStar flight to Sydney - all very straight forward and easy, apart from the headaches and disturbed stomachs.
We checked into the Wake-up! hostel, a place we hadn't stayed before but it the hostel based above our legendary SideBar a place we began our adventure as boys and go back to as men! Sunday night Chris and I walked through the city to Darling Harbour where we reminiced all the way and summed up our time in Melbourne. We sat looking over the Harbour, sad that we had left such a great place and a place that we could truely call a home, as that is exactly what
it felt like during that last month or so. We also walked past our previous work places on the harbour; La Cita and Georges bar - I really had no emotional attachment to La Cita other than thinking of what a rubbish place it was to work and how much of an idiot Luca (the bar manager) was! Ah well! After all our reminicing we came to the conclusion a good night's sleep would be a good cure to get pumped and excited about the huge adventure we have ahead of us.
12pm and we were sat on the 373 bus to Coogee beach, our old home. Sadly there was a nasty chill in the wind but that didn't stop us stripping off and lying in our usual spot hoping to catch some last Australian rays in the clear blue skies. Then paying homage to the aussie sea I did it in true Coogee style and ran into the ocean, Chris deciced better of it and filmed it from the beach. It certainly took my breath away for a second or two, but it was a must.
We then bussed our way to Circular Quay where we sat in
Darin, Me, Adam
Thanks so much guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the Opera bar between the Harbour bridge and under the Opera house to drink in the last sights of Sydney and again reminice about this incredibly wonderful country.
That night (last night), there hardly had to be words said about what the plan would be... SideBar and Scubar on monday night just like the old days but with much longer hair! It was a bit of a shame that it wasn't really very busy, but we enjoyed ourselves never the less.
Tuesday, 12:47pm - I'm now sat in a Global Gossip internet cafe biding my time before our flight to New Zealand. Although I have a ridiculous hangover (as ever!) which also numbs the emotion slightly, I am confused and deeply saddened by the fact I am leaving a place that has truely become a second home and if we didn't have all our flights booked so perfectly to get home just before Christmas, there is no doubt in my mind that we'd still be living in St. Kilda with no plan to leave!!
The Australian way of life, the Australian people, the Australian weather, the Australian beaches, the Australian dollar all feel part of me and
will be engraved on my heart forever. I now hear English people speak and I recognise them as having an accent, where-as I hear Australian people speak and it sounds completely normal. You've read about the good times and bad times I had here, but by far the good times outway the bad, leading me to say I have fallen in love with everything about this country!!!
For now I can only thank the people I've met along the way from Sydney to Sawtell to Byron Bay (WOW! still the best place I've ever been and some of the best people I've ever met!) to Fraser Island (Team D you RULE!) to a rainy Whitsundays to the Great Barrier Reef and finally to Melbourne (my home from home) INCREDIBLE!!!!!
THANKYOU AUSTRALIA!!!!!!
