Sunset
...as seen from our porch, perfect... October 26th, 2014
Well, this will be an easy post to complete: we did absolutely nothing here but relax and eat seafood...done. Well, okay, we did a few things but overall this was all about down time on a beach, something we like to fit in on our travels if possible...
Took a flight from Inle and arrived at Thandwe about an hour later...we had kind of half-booked a place called Lin Thar Oo on a recommendation from our hosts at PYI Guest House and they sent a bus to pick us up which worked out fine...accommodation here can be expensive (most are well north of $100 USD a night for a spot with beach views), and after checking out a couple of rooms and some negotiations we settled on a cool bungalow pretty much on the beach. Room was spacious, we had our own porch overlooking the beach, the only drag was power was only available from sundown to 6am...beer fridge didn't stay cold for long! Ah first world problems...haha...
So, day 1, walked to the end of the beach, that was a big day...lol...there was a fishing village at the end, and we came upon these
Fishin'
...love this pic, looks like they're standing on the water... huge mats covered in tiny fish drying in the sun...think they were anchovies...you can imagine the smell though! Lots of boats happening, and we noticed this restaurant out in the middle of the bay surrounded by water (tide was in), so we decided to wade out to see if we could reach it...luckily it was only waist deep and we made it, very cool!
Relaxed back at the ranch most of the afternoon with some dips in the Bay of Bengal (beach was beautiful, sandy and the water was the warmest I had ever experienced...lots of rocks though so you had to pick your entry point, I thought they gave the beach some character though). Wandered down to a restaurant on the beach for dinner, turns out we were the first customers of the season for them! Green Umbrella, think it was mentioned in the LP, great spot, nice family run place, and the seafood was awesome (I had a mixture of prawns, squid and barracuda...yum!).
It was about a 5-10 minute walk on the beach to get back to the hotel, and at this point there were tons of little crabs running around...most would scatter but some
Our Bungalow...
...not too shabby...I liked it better than some of the other places we saw, had a more rustic look and feel to it... would get caught in the headlights of our headlamp and run toward us, crazy! Lovely K was not digging it to say the least...haha...
Following day we walked into town...not a whole lot there, did discover a few restaurants and shops to buy supplies...and that was it for that day, back to the porch and beach...I'm guessing you get the picture now...did manage to bump into the Austrian couple we had been chatting with in Inle, we knew they were coming and were staying at a resort just down the beach from us...it was funny, we kept seeing the same people wherever we went, the tourist track is certainly in effect here...
That's really about it, just more relaxing and gorging on fresh seafood. We had originally planned on leaving for Yangon (our final stop) on the Wednesday (we arrived on Sunday) but after looking at what we wanted to see in Yangon we figured we wouldn't need three days, so decided to stay an extra day at Ngapali...perfect...

Hmm--paradise or big city?
Good call staying in that sweet bungalow on that gorgeous beach, lolling about. K was right--tons of little crabs are creepy, and the little fish drying with no gulls or dogs around was weird. But relaxing on the beach and gorging on seafood--perfection.
