Winnipeg....and yes, it's getting colder...

This is a dream trip...and now you are rightly asking...is a dream trip for you going to Winnipeg after Toronto? The answer is obviously no...but I'm on the road...actually...I'm on the move...no car or much road involved here...and I'm on my way to something pretty special...and the way to get there, is special by itself!

So my next stop is Winnipeg. Trust me, from here, the next three entries should be a little more insane...and not specially in a chronological order. I'm in the middle of the dream right now, writing this after a nearly completed day...a very long day, which could be far from being over...a day where I already took 400 pictures...yes...in a single day!

So here I am in Winnipeg...or rather, here I was...and here I'll be again pretty soon. Pretty interesting to feel that 30 miles away from Winnipeg, you are not in the countryside, you ae rather in the Prairie...it's fields after fields of whatever grain can grow here...and nothing else. But we are north of Toronto here, so nothing is growing anymore at the time of the year...and suddenly I made my entry in the windy, feeling actually rather wintery.

I've met few people from Winnipeg, but not really sure any of them is actually in Winnipeg for the moment. Arriving right in Downtown, it's a shock. Another North American city, the usual grid, the usual tall buildings...expect here they look really out of nowhere. And it's windy, and it's cold...and nobody is smiling in the streets...and we are only mid-October!

I dropped my bags in my nice and warm hotel room...took a long well deserved hot bath...and took some time to check my emails, having been out of the grids for over 36 hours.

Than, it was time to explore. First comment, people may not smile in Winnipeg, but that doesn't stop them from being nice...specially all the municipal bus drivers! So I went by bus, and I walked a lot...I'm sure you are familiar with that concept coming from me! I started by St Boniface, the French Quarter....enjoyed first the Gibraltar Fort, than the petty interesting St Boniface Cathedrale. After this, crossed the River and walked my way to the Fork. This is the tourist, or let say attraction hub of Winnipeg...and honestly, 20 minutes there was more than enough.

The new Canadian Museum of Human Rights has just opened in September. They are still in the soft opening period. Could have been nice...but no other way to visit than on a tour, next one was an hour away...and half of the museum was still not opened...next time...maybe!

Made my way after this back to Downtown. I'm not in Winnipeg to shop, so Portage Street will have to do without me. I saw the impressive Legislative Building....impressive as...this place is pretty huge just to be in the middle of nowhere...and it was already time to go back to my hotel....it was still windy, it was still cold....but at least it was not dark yet.

Tomorrow morning is another day....tomorrow morning was yesterday morning....and trust me, I'm seriously happy to have made my way to Winnipeg...even if it's just for the next stop.

The next three entries should be kind of a mess....no time frame, I'll write and publish what I can....when I can...
