Photography: capture the essence of people and place
Writing: transform experience into story
(and have fun too)
When and where will the Travel Notebook Learning Adventuresbe held?
Four workshops will be delivered in Cuba: 1. Cienfuegos: "People and Place" January 23rd - February 1st, 2015
2. Trinidad de Cuba: "People and Place" February 6th - 12th, 2015
3. Baracoa Safari: "Into the Biosphere" February 27th - March 8th, 2015
4. Baracoa: "People and Place" March 20th - 29th, 2015
What and how can I expect to learn? The
integrated photographic and writing workshops will provide participants with an in-depth experience of “People and Place” along with an historical overview. The emphasis is on
skills development through experiencing and doing.
Methods will include:
· “Field” research: primary research/experience through city walkabouts, wilderness excursions, visits to galleries and museums, musical venues, interactions, and so on);
· Roundtable discussions, group and individual feedback;
· Each person will receive a booklet with practical suggestions for skills development, graphics/examples, and quotes to inspire and to take away for future reference.
Each workshop provides experiences that are urban and that will take you into Cuba’s rich natural heritage. The “
People and Place” workshops focus primarily on urban contexts with side trips into the countryside. The “
Baracoa: Into the Biosphere” expedition will lead you into the unique biosphere and rare fauna and flora of the Alexander von Humboldt National Park to Salto Fino, the highest cascade in the Caribbean. Many new species have been discovered; think of an untouched Galapagos!
Rewards:
1. Besides improvements to your current writing and photographic skills, you will come away from the 10-day workshop with deeper insights into the culture and nature of Cuba and her people.
2. We are arranging for a juried, traveling photo show in galleries in both Cuba and Canada and participants are encouraged to participate.
3. A booklet of postcard stories and excerpts will accompany the photo shows. Sales will benefit a Cuban charity (TBA).
