So from last day in Paris to day six of cruising. We went to Mass in Sacre Coeur on Montmarte on Sunday morning said Hello to Msr Lambert and found a young female, ink and watercolour artist who we could afford in Place de Tetre! So more French artwork coming home. We established our local brasserie in Place Pigalle and John spent Sunday sampling Tart Tartin around Montmarte. Then we went off to the Moulin Rouge. We got front table seats but were not allowed to take photos so you just have to go yourselves. It was a fantastic night. Herc had to stay home because it was strictly adult, 2 hours of top class non - stop entertainment. Then up at the "crack of" to get the flights through to Budapest. Herc was extremely pleased that he had been promoted to Her's handbag because the next time we saw our "in the hold" luggage was Wednesday evening. If he was in the big suitcase he would have missed out on all sorts of excitement.

We were extremely lucky to have a clear and beautiful first night in Budapest and we went for an illuminations trip up and down the river on our River Ship MS Travelmarvel Diamond. Good thing we spent some money during the day as someone has to pay for all that electricity. Tuesday morning we had a bus ride around Budapest sights and a stroll around a couple of the Buda attractions. Cruising proper started on Tuesday afternoon. We turned up at the Captains Cocktail Party in the same clothes we had been wearing since Saturday, but I added a splash of colour with a Budapest scarf. Housekeeping took all of our clothes late on Tuesday night and laundered and ironed them and returned them at 7.00am on Wednesday so we looked and smelled fresh for Vienna. We did a walking tour of Vienna city centre and returned to find something nice to wear for dinner in our rescued luggage. We have restricted ourselves to 3 courses most nights, but the ship seems to think we can only be happy if we are constantly feeding our faces! Thursday morning we headed to Vienna to the Spanish Riding School for the morning exercise. This was the first day since we arrived in Europe that we had rain so 2 hours watching horses from the top balcony of the riding arena was warm and comfortable. It just got more miserable as the day progressed. Him had picked up a sneezy nose and a sore throat so we took refuge in the Church in the centre of town until it was time to catch up with a couple of vaulting friends of Her's in a very special Viennese Coffee House. We have now moved to sampling Apple Strudel! Her bought 2 pairs of stockings in Vienna for the experience of shopping in Vienna -now need 2 days work to pay for them! Friday we had a bit of a rest up as His cold was setting in and he had run out of puff a bit. It was cold rainy and miserable so we passed up on the morning excursion and saved ourselves for the Bendedictine monastery at Melk which was in sunshine. We ended up as part of a small party of 4 guided through the Monastery and Museum by a lovely young female Uni Student who made the experience very special. Baroque architecture is the popular thing here and all the gilt in the church there was mind blowing. We had a little taste of Salzburg Music in the lounge last night. Today Him took a turn for the worse and he has just been visited by a very nice German Doctor here in Passau who was amazed that he was 82 and made quite a fuss about getting him better. Fortunately the cold is still in his head and has not moved to his chest and some antibiotics and he will be as good as new in a couple of days. Lifted by this thought we went for a walk to the church that boasts the organ with 17300 pipes. It was worth the walk, but confirmed that he is not as well as he thinks! Will probably lay low again tomorrow.
