After a huge breakfast consisting of fresh fruit salad, pancakes, sausage, maple syrup, muffins, coffee, tea and orange juice (which even we couldn't finish), we headed along the road to the falls. These were absolutely stunning. They surpassed our expectations.

The thunder of the water could be heard more and more clearly as we got nearer. First we saw the American Falls on the far river bank, and then as we went further we could see both these and the Horseshoe Falls. The Horseshoe Falls span right across the river linking Canada and USA. Deep down in the gorge we could see 2 boats carrying passengers to the bottom of the falls....Maid in the Mist with people wearing blue macs from the US side, and Hornblower with people wearing red macs from the Canadian side.

The path and road alongside the river have been beautifully landscaped. We could see why the boat is called Maid in the Mist. The spray from the bottom of the falls reached up high up to the top of the gorge where we were walking. As we came closer we were walking through a fine mist, and then it was even falling like rain! The path went on close beside the top of the Horseshoe Falls and beyond the falls we walked out into sunshine again.

Next we took a boat ride to the base of the falls. We definitely needed to wear those red macs. The water was swirling fiercely down in the gorge and it was like driving into a rainstorm. Quite ecxiting and exilerating!

We went back for a rest, and walked out to the falls again in the evening to see them lit up in multicolours.

Note. Fred has uploaded 4 videos of Niagra Falls on his u tube channel. These can be found by searching under FandF world trip and then scrolling down to Niagra 1 and Niagra 2.
