Rome Airport to Nunzia Apartment

We took a train to Rome Termini, then a taxi to the apartment.

The apartment is a delightful and is in a great position near the Colosseum and buses and metro.
The trip to Rome was smooth, but I couldn't sleep, so I caught up on my film watching. It was a great opportunity to see the latest releases. We landed in Singapore for a stop over at 2.00am, then another 12 hours to Rome. Twenty hours of flying East into darkness and continual night is very disorientating. The first time we saw sun was in Rome when we touched down at 7.20am. and streams of light poured in through the windows. Singapore Air have great service, great food and the Singapore Slings will be a new favourite. I'm going to buy a bottle to bring home.

We took the train to the city and then caught a cab from the station. It was only a 3km drive and the driver charged us 30euro, not sure if he overcharged us, but at that time I really didn't care, we had made it!

The apartment itself is very spacious with everything we could need. The little lift can only fit one person in at a time, so we had to go up individually. The apartment is owned by an Australian and Mrs Baglioni, the key holder, lives downstairs and looks after

it. Books, pamphlets, info, WiFi, its all here. It's great to be independent and do our own thing, go shopping and be on our own and its lucky we're here for a week, so we have the time to do this.

After we checked in to the apartment, we couldn't wait to get out, walk around and do some exploring. In the streets nearby there are many restaurants, outdoor cafes, exquisite antiques, hand made glass objects and wonderful food shops. The local deli, has beautiful meats, cheeses, bread and salads and we bought some for dinner to save us going out again later. I ordered in almost unintelligible Italian, but he seemed to understand OK. I wish I'd studied more in my Italian class.

We kept ourselves going by having a walk down to the Colosseum and checking out our bearings. The feeling I had as we turned the corner to see the Colosseum was jaw dropping. The size of it, the design and its presence were overwhelming. I had to stop and catch my breath. I don't think anything can prepare you for it.

We found the buses and the metro, so we feel we can tackle the city tomorrow. How exciting to be here.

We opened a bottle of Italian Shiraz to have with our deli meal and felt pleased with the world.
