At 6am, they turn off the AC so I stir a little and make it up by 6:30. I get ready and head to the front and start to read. At 7am the boat takes off and we cruise for another 2 hours. Breakfast is served on the front. Shelly gets up around 7:30.

We see one of the fisherman herding ducks. They sell them for food and eggs. At 9 we stop in a town and Anil meets us with his niece who lives in Florida. She grew up in Montana and is applying to dental school. It was fun talking with her.

Shelly wanted to see a local bar and Anil took us to one. Only the men go to the bars, the wife’s stay home so everyone stared at us as we came in. They all wanted to have their picture taken with us. Anil’s told them all that his niece was from Mexico so they wouldn’t bother her. She doesn’t speak the local language and we didn’t understand what most of them said. It was fun to sit there for a bit and have a drink. They all wanted us to buy them drinks. We didn’t stay long.

Anil drove us for a couple hours and we first stopped at a family reunion for his wifes side of the family. There were a bunch of people there. It was just like a US reunion. Lots of people talking kids and young adults playing games (cricket), … After that Anil drove us to his house and we met his wife and children. His wife cooked us a lovely lunch. We then visited several of his family’s houses(brothers, mothers, grandfathers,…) and one of their rubber plantations before heading to Vanilla County. His family has some money. These houses are wonderful.

Vanilla County is in the mountains and it started to rain as we headed that way. We checked in and they gave Shelly and I separate but adjoining rooms. I’m writing today and yesterday’s blog now and the electricity keeps going on and off. I’m not sure if it is the storm that is causing it or what. I write the blogs in word and then when I get internet access, I just cut and paste into the blog.

We had a lovely dinner here and the host came out and talked with us for a while. Tonight we are the only people here. One thing you need to know when you got to these home stays is you are going to get a lot of food. It’s all so good you just can’t stop but we are constantly full. Afterwards, we went back to the room, read for a bit and then crashed.
