Taken on way back to hotel after walking around old Havana in the morning.
Decided to take an early morning walk around old Havana. Basically walked down one street from my hotel to old Havana. Lots of people on way to work, walking or waiting for crowded buses. People waiting outside workplaces. In old Havana people walking on the streets because the footpaths too narrow or too broken up. One armed man sold me yesterday´s copy of Granma. People pushing trolleys with their stalls to tourist art market or to the old bookstalls at the Plaza de Armas.

Walked back to hotel in time to check out.

10 minute taxi ride to the Casa Particular (a bit like an English B&B) in Vedado. The casa was on the 3 floor of a 3 floor apartment building. Double bed, ensuite bathroom, mini bar! better than the hotel room, and about a third of the price.

Only midday, so decided to go back to the Plaza of the Revolution, and go up the tower that is part of the memorial to José Martí. Got a bit lost so it took a while to get there. Plaza of the Revolution still pretty empty, and surprising so was the tour, just 5 other tourists in what

is the highest point in Havana.

Took a couple of photos from the tower, but the windows were smudgy. Couple more photos from around the Plaza.

Price conversion
I'm so impressed and jealous! Loving Cuba. Few questions. 1 CUC = what in NZ dollars? Also the Casa Particular sounds great and you said that it is 1/3 the price of a hotel. How much is that approximately in NZ dollars. Why didn't you like the Mojita? Is there a lot of touristy Che items for sale? And have you seen the big man himself or heard any inside information in regards to his health condition? Where to next? - Desert Rose

Price Conversion/Casas/Che
Hmmm, well 1 CUC is supposed to be pegged to the USD, however when you change USD to CUC, the Cubans charge a 10% admin fee, so you are probably better off using Euros. For info on Casas just do a Google search on Casa Particular. Heaps of stuff on Che for sale. Sorry didn´t get you anything though :-(
