Hi there!!!
It has been a while since the last blog!! I have to say that between our poor internet connection, our move to the new apartment and our week in Thailand I has just been impossible!!!

Anyways, we are in our huge new apartment and we really like it, it is very modern and in a quiet but centric area called the French Concession.

Last week we had a 4 days holiday in China (labour day) and we went one week to Thailand. We arrived to Bangkok at around 4 am (our flight was delayed) and lots of people were on the streets! Of course a lot of "multicultural couples" like Omar calls an american guy and a thai girl...

The city was so hot we felt like we were walking in a sauna all the time. I have never sweat so much in my life. It was GROSS!

Bangkok is a great city, it has a bit of everything; a lot of shopping, a lot of good and bad food (including insects like "cucarachas" - I do not know how to write this in English) temples, golden and black buddhas, more temples, a river, more roaches and more temples.

AND A LOT OF GIRLS LOOKING FOR GRINGOS.

The above was actually very sad, the girls were everywhere and were very young and apparently it was OK or they had no shame since they were walking on the street and calling everybody to the bars.

The main difference between Bangkok and Shanghai is that in Thailand, they are into aromatherapy, meaning spas and essential oils; in Shanghai, aromatherapy is the fish oil smell on the street...Now THAT is a difference.

Something really embarrasing that happened to us (specially to me, since I used to be very proud of my degree in Tourism Planning) is that we fell into ALL the tourist traps while visiting the touristic attractions... A tuk-tuk offered us to take us around the city for 40 Baht (US$1) on the claim that the major touristic attractions were closed that day AND WE BELIEVED HIM and we ended up visiting 2 tailors and gem stores (probably fake gem stores) and inhaling all the fumes of the city for 4 hours... BAD.

We also had a 3 hours thai traditional herbal massage (do not be fooled by the name, it is quite similar to torture) for $US20. The good news is that it did help us.

After 3 days of visiting (yes... temples) we took a night train to Chiang Mai (12 hours trip) and the next day we enjoyed this beatiful city north of Thailand which is much cooler, has mountains, a great night bazzar and yes, more temples.

The second day we did a full day trekking to the mountains and visited 2 villages of tribes that emigrated from China hundreds of years ago... Omar says they must be very old... The highlight of the day was an hour ride on elephants in the jungle. IT WAS AWESOME!! It felt like a rollercoaster without seat bealt. (Some pictures below). After that we did bamboo raftfing which was DREADFUL.

The last day we did what I always wanted to try: Rock Climbing. We went to some limestone walls called "Crazy Horse" and again embarrasement since I was so scared that I could not reach most of the peaks of the mountain... At least I tried. Omar did great (more pictures). A friend of ours said to us that rock climbing is like a philosophical experience since your life depends on a cord and the trust you have on the person below... It is true.

Back to Bangkok, Omar worked like a dog and I had no choice but to go shopping for the real aromatherapy products.
