Edit Blog Post
Ok so we are half way being up to date with the travel blog. I know I haven’t been writing too much in these recent blogs but there are lots of great pics that do all the talking, what more do you want??? After this, Its only Spain and then we will stop for a while as we will be back in London……and that won’t be very exciting will it now???
After our 2 hour stop in Pisa we arrived in Levanto. Levanto would be our home for a few days while we explored The Cinque Terre, The Cinque Terre is made up of 5 small fishing villages along the coast. They are sooooo beautiful which makes the treks we did between them well worth it.
So we arrived in Levanto and it was extremely hot, no surprises there. We weren’t to sure where the camping ground was but we managed to walk a few kms with our backpacks, in the heat, to the camp ground. We were lucky to get a spot so we set up our new home, the tent, and went exploring. Being the summer, the small town was busy with tourists from all over Europe. We
headed to the beach as Levanto is known to be a surfing destination, not today though. And there had not been any waves for over 45 days the locals told us, but Tuesday was the day, and it was then Saturday. So bummed again that there was no surf we sat on the beach and relaxed, more!!!
The next day was the start of our treks through the Cinque Terre. We chose the biggest walk first from the village of Monterosso to Vernaza. This was the longest walk so we thought we would get that out of the way first. It was supposed to take only 1 hour and 45 minutes, it took us 2 and a half. Reasons being, it was boiling hot, there were some steeps stairs and we are very unfit. So we finally arrived in beautiful Vernaza. The town was packed with people so we joined them all by sunbaking and swimming in the ocean. We stayed for a few hours and enjoyed the town.
The next day was a much easier day for us. Expecting some more horrible climbing we were pleasantly surprised to find the track from Corniglia to Manarola was flat and
Us dying
Told you there was a lot of sweat was a proper track. We did it in no time and before we new it we were at the second town, Manarola. Another lovely town that we explored, and then swam to cool off from our walk. We stayed a little while before we took the short walk to the next town, Riomaggiore. Only half hour that one so it was easy peasy. Riomaggiore was also very nice. We stayed, we explored, and we ate!!!! Then we went back to Levanto on the train. That day we thought it would be a very good idea to organise our trip train trip to Barcelona that was in 2 days time. Us being disorganised left it to the last minute and it was all booked out for like the next 10 days. So the man at the train station recommended we go to the travel agent and get them to help us. Trains were all booked, flying was not an option as it was so expensive, so boat it was. So we got a cruise ship booked from Italy to Barcelona, Spain…..Nice.
So the next day was our last day in Levanto, Tuesday, and that cold front the locals told Dave about
seemed to be in, and there were waves….Yipee!!!!! So Dave was out there having a surf and I was on the beach, in the rain, Nice. After 3 hours in the water he finally emerged and was stung all over from Jellyfish stings, Medusa’s as they call them there. He stayed out of the water for only 3 hours before it got better, the surf, and he was back out there for another 3 hours. So after a day of surfing for dave and sunbaking for me, we got a pizza and sat on the beach and enjoyed our last night in Italy.
So the next day we packed up our tent and headed to Genoa where we would board our cruise ship. It was sad to say goodbye to Italy but at the same time we were happy as we were getting a little sick of just pizza and pasta to eat!!!
