The beautiful summer sun has dissapeared, and the rain has begun to pour! Here I was laughing at all the stories I was told about my "winter" clothing selection, and now I am being laughed at as the Enlgish are still happy to wear their t-shirts, I am wearing my thickest jumpers, footy socks and as many layers as I can find!
But I have had a very exciting last few weeks!!
Two weekends ago, I joined Kristine and her family and friends on their boat, and sailed around the Isle of Wight. It was gorgeous! The water was much bluer that I expected to see, but incredibly cold (although they assured me it was warm due to the recent heat.. I'm not that silly!!), not stopping Kristine and her husband James from jumping over board when we ancored for lunch! It was so nice to be out of the city and surrounded by fresh air, not quite as sunny as I am used to, but certainly enough sun to get me slightly burnt, which is exactly what I needed, to keep some of my colour!
The following week got exciting as I started to really research where
Kick that ball!
Shorts are longer, they don't jump on eachother, and they tend to complain and cry alot.. But hey, that's the English!! I wanted to live, and hwat arrangements I needed to make. I had met with some people who had placed ad's for home shares, and I can't say that I was feeling fantastic about it!! So I was very excited when Victoria and I started talking seriously about living together.. There's lots I could say about her, that you will be sure to hear over the coming months, so I won't bore you, but what you really want to know is that she also eats Vegemite on her toast! So I think it's perfect!!
After searching high and low, we found a beautiful 2 bedroom in the docklands, which has been secured this week, and we are due to move in on the 26th of August. About 25mins out of the city by tube, but a sacrifice I was more than happy to make, as it is so secure, in a beautiful area, and more affordable than the shoeboxes we were looking at! So the house warming party planns are well and truely in action and the esential big couches to house all the stray Aussies!! You have no idea how excited I am to have my own big
Cat!! I found them..
I promised to have things sorted for you, and I think I hit gold! I found you your Allen's Lollies.. Even sourced some BBQ Shapes, my fav. Clinkers.. But at a price :( starting from $6AUS per pack.. So might be cheaper to pop some in the post to greet you on the other side!! bed, a nice bathroom with seperate shower and bath, and my own kitchen!! Wooohooo!!
That friday night I went with the boys to a famous jazz club called Ronnie Scotts, where I was amazed at the quality of music and the atmosphere was quite fun! We were alll seated on leveled pues, with the little red mushroom lamps and since it's refurnishment, it no-longer has the cloud of cigar smoke it used to, but you can imagine what it must have been a few years ago.. The walls are covered in framed photo's of the artisits that have performed from the very begining right up to the week before, and you can see everyone's feet tapping along to the music!! The sound was just amazing, and definatly the first place I will be taking Tristan if he makes it over next year!
But enough of the rich culture, Frankie thought it was very very important for me to witness a real football match!! It was only a friendly match between Fullum (London Team) and Boavista (Portugese Team), as the season opens this week, but it was a good oppertunity to suss it all out, and I must admit it is much more interesting live and in the crowd. We were right on the half way line, and amonst some crazy die hard fans, just as footy should be!! But it still bothers me, why football?? They already have the name soccer, I thinks it's kind of selfish to steal our sports name too! American football, and Australian Football don't have any other name, so footy it is.. But soccer is soccer!! Why try and call it football?? Hmmm...
And after a day in the rain and cold, what more could was ask for, than a Sunday Roast?
Laurence had taken the task of making me my first English Sunday Roast. Although I am still not eating meat, I have been making exceptions, but the thought of British Beef did have me slightly scared! I just didn't know how serious this occasion was.. We walked into the kitchen to our normally hideous kitchen to find it transformed with the table covered by a white cloth, background music playing and the highest piled plates I have seen filled with the traditional beef, gravy, pees, crunchie carrots and potato's and even yorkshire puddings.. I was incharge of the wine, and was able to find all my favorites from Aus, that went down a treat! Following the meal, we were treated by a selection of cheeses, also prepared by Laurence.. My goodness, I wasn't able to move!! I was begining to understand why it was so so important to them!! I hope he doesn't have plans this Sunday, because I would quite fancy another feast 😉
Once I did have the ability to move again, I met Victoria in Covent Garden to help her celbrate her birthday, and meet all her friends that I was warned, may become mistaken for permanent fixtures in our new home!! We were in a really cute cocktail bar, surrounded by the most diverse bunch of people, it was fantastic! One of Vic's friends, John, was counting his penny's to get his next beer, while her friend Matt (a multi-milionare) had his Ferrari parked out the front and threw 1,000 pounds out of his wallet and into the air because he was bored (Matt later had me driven home by his driver to make sure I got home safely, as Victoria was staying out late).. Then there were the "it boys" James and Ashley, who are the most gorgeous twins, very proudly telling me about their magazine spread that was coming out on monday and that they like to travel - infact they try to spend at least one week per month away on holiday (at this stage I am clearly jaw dropped!). I also got to meet Victoria's boyfriend (another James) who was just lovely, and works a body gaurd (so that's our security sorted!) and very importantly drives a car (so he will be transporting our luggage!!). I just thought it was so great to sit and see how all these guys were such good mates, yet all completely different, and yet it doesn't seem to phase any of them in the slightest!
So after a good night out, I was buzzed for my first big interview! All went fantastically, and I was offered the job on the spot.. I applied as a casual event staff, but they were more interested in training me as a team leader, which is the supervisor of the event staff while they are on-site, which seems quite exciting. It is only casual work, but they are incharge of some big big events, including The Brit Awards!
Feeling fantastic about the feedback I recieved in the first interview, I had another the next day, for a simular company, simular position, but this time they focus more on the Royal events of England. Again, in the interview I was offered work on the spot, however they also wanted to offer me another position, this time off site, in the office, working with the clients directly in a staff and event co-ordination role, which blew my mind, because really that's exactly what I want to do!
Both companies are aware of eachother, and the fact that I have been hired by each! The way that they work means that I can get away with working for both if I am smart about when I make myself available, so I will ride the rollercoaster and see how they work out!! The main thing is that now, I have some pounds coming my way!!
Fingers crossed, all goes well, and I have nothing but wonderfull things to say next time!! 😊 😊 Not feeling like such a runaway dreamer, everything is finding it's place!!
