Edit Blog Post
It's been almost two years since I last posted, which is crazy! Can I use the excuse of losing track of time? Not really. Well, let me do a quick recap: I "lived" in Kuwait for my full contract (which is to say outside of work I didn't do too much other than use the gym and beach at the Hilton and occasionally wander a mall for a couple of hours), travelling in the interim to Sri Lanka, Egypt (twice, for the total of a month, right during the height of the revolution), going back to Indonesia for a month, and Ethiopia for Christmas last year (which, FYI, was unbe-freaking-lieveable...I would recommend it to anyone who loves adventurous travel and hiking).
I've just now moved to Dubai for three years to work at an all-girls's school. I'd say 65% of our girls are Emirati and 90% are Muslims who cover, so it's a really unique opportunity to work with a culture so different from my own. I adore Dubai; I'm not sure, but this may suggest I'm superficial at heart since Dubai is often described as fake. I guess post-Kuwait it just feels refreshing to live in a place where I feel 'normal'. I've started driving again, I have normal school hours, I don't live so far away from the city, and I have made friends outside of work quite easily. Yay me!
After three and a half months of teaching, it's time for the winter break, and I'm off to Kenya for two safaris in two different parks, and diving in Malindi marine park...so I'll work a little (a lot!) harder at keeping this updated (shame on me).
Until the new year...
