Had to have Macca's on 4th JulyHad to have Macca's on 4th JulyHad to have Macca's on 4th July

Believe it or not despite this being the most expensive McDonald's we've ever had (over $20 for Big Mac meal + 1 burger) it was also the best we have ever had. View was good also.
We are actually righting this entry about 1 month after the fact but will keep the entry dates true to our travels for our own records. We have copped a little abuse about why we have taken so long to create new updates, but it's basically because we didn't want to sit in internet cafes all day when the weather and sights were so beautiful. We are now back in UK and the weather is crap so it's a great time to do some more updates. Anyone who has travelled in Europe and UK will know that when the sun is out you get outdoors, as you never know how long it may last. So back to the blog!

4th July 2006 and apparently on the other side of the Atlantic the Americans are celebrating their independence day. We on the other hand decided to take a day trip from beautiful Interlaken back down to Lake Geneva and visit Montreaux. Anyone with a vague sense of Swiss geography will no doubt be thinking - hang on, only about a week ago you were just up the road in Lausanne, so what the hell are you doing going back on yourself to see Montreaux. Well good question, and one which by the end of the day we had asked ourselves a few times. Lets just say even though its looks really close on the map, the Swiss mountain roads mean that it takes a lot longer to drive than you would think.

Montreaux, nestled on the lake front, is a really nice place, and warrants a visit in its own right, but with the added bonus of the Jazz festival being on, their were plenty of things going on and people to enjoy them. Our only real dissapointment was that we didn't see any jazz !!!!!. Apparently it all happens at night, mainly behind closed doors. This didn't really worry us too much, as before arriving in town we didn't even know it was on, so settled on what the rest of the town had to offer - shops, cafes, the lake front and another great castle (the Chateau de Chillon).
