Edit Blog Post

Hello everybody,

Sorry for the delay in making this blog to keep you updated. But better late than never I suppose. So I'll update you on the past three weeks.

Week 1 - I arrive in Sydney on Oct 18th. The first thing I do after checking in at the hostel is go to a place downtown that has info for me about banking and tax file numbers etc. Then I open a bank account and drop my phone off in Chinatown to be unlocked. It's still not unlocked but I bought a little phone to get by for now. So after taking care of some of those important things I spend the next few days just walking around and trying to get a feel for Sydney.

Week 2 - I buy my fancy duds for work. Two white button downs, a black vest, tie, black pants. And I have my first work shift. I'm working at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. They put on upscale banquets in the art gallery and my job is to set up events, serve guests food and drinks of all sorts and then pack everything back up nightly as there will be patrons enjoying the gallery the next morning. The work is fine. Not difficult but enjoyable enough. I was pushing a trolley of chairs the other night and I realized that I had just pushed past a Degas sculpture. Pretty cool!

Week 3 - I continue to work and explore the city. I spent this last weekend in Mudgee because I did not have to work. A friend of mine from Arlington has a sister who married an Aussie and they currently live in Mudgee with their two kids. Honestly, it was nice to get out of the city for a weekend and see some of the Australian countryside. Mudgee is a small country town situated in the hills and there are some small vineyards. It seemed like a really pleasant place and I'm glad I had the chance to see it.

That's really all of my updates for now. I have some work shifts this week and I'll continue to explore the city in my free time

YAY FOR UPDATES!!
So good to be hearing from you! I can't wait to read about all your adventures. I'm basically super jealous that you are traveling right now and doing awesome things while I have a normal job so please let me live vicariously through you. Updates from our end: Drew, Kate, Chris and I had pizza the other night and Drew is really good at throwing the dough in the air and spinning it around. So...that's really awesome. Also, Revel is becoming more civilized by the day. By the time you get back he'll be a normal dog :) haha. We miss you but are glad you're having such fun adventures. Love you lots! Caroline
