A trip to the market (and testing adding pictures!)

We've been slowly trying to get the lay of the land, so we ventured out to the market today. First we had to take money out of an ATM... that took forever. Turns out, we don't know how to ask where an ATM is, and even if we did manage to ask someone correctly, we can't understand the directions we gave them. I think it was the 5th or 6th bank guard we asked before we finally each understood each other enough to get Rog and I to the nearest working ATM. *Sidenote: all banks around here have armed guards standing outside, and inside the doors. One bank, we had to go through a metal detector as well.* We each took out 1,000 Quetzales, which sounds like a lot, but really is only about $130. And off to the market we went. We found it right away - it's pretty big, probably 6 blocks long and a whole indoor mall-like section as well. We bought a bit of super fresh fruit, some veggies and household basics, like soap. We can't figure out how to say garbage bags though...hopefully we get some tomorrow. Later on in the day we ventured out again to find a liquor store (surprise, surprise). We found one and got some red wine and a few local beers. On the way home we stopped by a used book store, and they totally sell bottles of wine there as well. Wine and books in ONE spot -- seriously going to be my favorite store, I can tell already. We asked prices at a few places on the way home and figured out the liquor store guy totally charged us way more than every other place we asked. Oops - that's how we learn I guess!

Anyways - we don't want to be those super obvious tourist people (Roger's red hair does that well enough already) so we left his nice camera at home, but I took some pictures of the view from our main room. Tomorrow we'll try to get some of our apartment. It's really just an L-shaped kitchen/living room, a bathroom, and our bedroom. Not too much to see, but we really like it so far.

I tried adding pictures --we'll see if they worked. If they do, the first one is our view from right above our kitchen table. We have a whole wall of windows and the view is almost the same from the entire wall. The second picture is our little guatemalan friend 😉 jk - we found him in our sink and after taking pictures, we couldn't bring ourselves to kill him so we just left the apartment haha. He's just a little guy so I'm not too scared:/
