From the middle of the English Channel
...we're floating on the English Channel, on our way to France. Well, our destination is Antwerp, Belgium, but we'll land in France first.

The ferry is much higher class than we would've suspected. Everything's all glassy and lighted prettily and there are several bars and restaurants, huge windows and a duty free shop. The sun has set while we've been aboard, and not there's a big ol' fat lemon moon hanging low over the horizon of France. We can easily see the horizon on both sides of the Channel, and they look like dazzling strands of life slicing through the black night.

We've been traveling in comfort despite the many bags the four of us have all together; Stu and Lotte just got a new Landrover, so we drove through England with the windows open and the music up. I have to say that this has been one of the prettiest days in England yet; nice and sunny but never too hot. We visited Brighton on the way out, as Stu had a meeting at the University of Sussex. It was a nice farewell to England.

The last few days have been nice as well. The night after our off-roading adventure we went out for a curry dinner with Lotte, Stu and more of their friends. And last night, we went back to the farm and this time I went riding in Jamie's Westfield, just about the sexiest car ever (besides my light blue '87 Volvo assembled from spare parts and with about 4,000 bumper stickers). I insisted on wearing a scarf and big sunglasses, and we flew out into the evening--AGAIN with the setting sun-- and I shrieked as the green countryside blurred by me. I figure the adrenaline isn't noticable when you're moving as fast as we were, because as soon as I stepped out of the car I felt my knees were weak.

We’ve caught up with laundry and some e-mails, and now we’re on our way to settle into Lotte and Stu’s for a few weeks. We’ll take small journeys to Amsterdam and some other cities in the Netherlands, Germany (where’ll we stay with a friend from Kingswood), Luxembourg (where Lotte has a friend we’ll stay with), as well as other cities in Belgium.

That’s what we know for now. All our love to everyone we love (and miss). Take care.
