An Aztec Calendar of the sun cycle. There are 5 suns in total and we are living in the central one (the last one). It will be the doomsday when the last one finish, but no one know when..

Mexico - A Living Legacy

Mexico is a country I have been wanting to go for ages. Simple reason….the mysteries of the Maya, an ancient civilization, plus the 2012 Doomsday. All the people were talking about Mayan calendar, and the pyramids. Out of curiosity, I finally decided to have Mexico as my next destination. Before I started my adventure, what I know about Mexico are only Mayan and Nacho (I seldom saw Nacho in Mexico..). In fact, Mexico is much more than that.

I stayed in Mexico for 1 months and a half, and most of the time I was in the capital, Mexico City. It is the biggest city in the world. Mexico City is located in the Valley of Mexico at an altitude of 2,240 metres. It is really high and that’s why I felt like I can’t breathe sometimes. Mexico City was first built on an island of a lake in the valley by the Aztecs in 1325 as Tenochtitlan. This is now an ancient ruin in the centre of Mexico City. As the city is built on an island, so it is sinking at a certain rate and Mexico City will completely disappear thousands

of years later…..you will see some slanted church, leaning office building around. From the 1000-year-old Mayan Temples to the priceless Aztec monolithic sculptures, Mexican people are surrounded by history, making Mexico some of the people’s dream place to visit (I finally saw the real Aztec calendar, Stone of the Sun. It’s huge!)

My Big Brother House

Because I didn't know that I need US visa for even just change flight in the US, the airline didn't me get on the flight without visa @@ What I can only do is buy a new ticket. I was like WTF?!?! This was probably the most fucked up thing ever happened in my life lol. Fortunately my bros happened to have a trip to London and I can stay in their house. After staying in London for a few days (I went sightseeing with my bros, making the shit better....), I bought a new ticket flying through Canada and started my journey! When I first arrived in Mexico, it was midnight already and the AIESEC people picked me up in the airport. After Mario drove like fast and furious, finally we arrived at the house. It’s literally a Big

It's not the original one. Because the bridge to that one was broken, it's not allowed to get in anymore. Thus They made a fake one and we can only watch it on the boat. What A Shame!!
Brother house lol because 23 people are living in a house together with TWO bathrooms and THREE bedrooms. So how can we sort it out? We used several bunk beds in a single room and fitted all the people in. And I found the room hot and stinky lol (have no idea who broke the rule 13 LOL).

Price

The impression Mexico gave me is the cheap price, everything is SO CHEAP (I mean compare to the UK)! I kept saying..…OMG its SO cheap!!...WOWW I’m gonna buy this…..so my Mexican friends think I am so rich, especially Diego (actually I’m not lol). By the way I made him a new name, Pendiejos jajaa (Pendejos means idiot) . So everything is cheap, for example, it only costs around 1 pound to have a lunch (6 pounds in the UK!), around 0.5 euros to get a can of Arizona green tea (4 euros in Germany!)….a place called Tepito is even cheaper! The area has always been populated by the lower and alienated classes. Most of Tepito is filled with the huge open-air market, and most of the criminal activity occurs here in the form of selling counterfeit

items and stolen goods. That is the reason why the things there are so cheap. But please don’t go because you will put your life at risk when you enter the area. I heard they sell guns, and even eyeballs and lungs….so it is very lucky that you can come out with your organs and limbs intact lol. I went there once because my friends brought me there and I didn’t know how dangerous it is. After I know the story of Tepito, I feel so damn lucky that I am still alive because I’m an Asian and that is even more dangerous for me. God bless lol. As the stuff is very cheap in Mexico, I bought lots of useless shit and ended up spending a lot @@.

Language

The official language in Mexico is Spanish. In these 1 month and a half, I learnt lots of Spanish, but only swear words lol. It is always true that learning swear words is the easiest first step to learn any language, but the problem is I stopped learning Spanish after I know all the swear words lol… ‘Good morning chinga tu madre carbon’, ‘¿Cómo estás?’ ‘De la chingada’……..I

met some Brazilian guys there and one of them speak Portuguese only, then I used google translate to talk to her lol. There was something interesting happened. When Raphael was still in Mexico, I thought Talita can’t speak English well because she always asked Raphael to translate what I am trying to say. When Raphael left Mexico, I found Talita can speak fluent English LOLLLL. Her English improved in one day. Chloe and I were laughing so hard!! When I was visiting my friends’ house, their parents usually can’t speak English, but they like talking to me, then I just kept saying sisisisi jajajaja, no matter what they are asking loll…(si means yes, jaja means haha) I still remember in the first week that Kike taught me puta means please, so when you go to a shop you should say puta (puta means bitch).. He really thought that I believed him lol.

Mexican Cuisine

What I knew about Mexican food or drink before I arrived in Mexico is only Nacho. Actually the most common food there is Taco, Gordita, Quesadilla….and of course chilli. I had had these kinds of food for a whole month and I got really tired of it. I was like ‘Oh Please! No more Taco and Gordita for me..’. The food is good, but I can’t have it in my whole life. Mexican never get fed up with Taco. Likewise, we never get fed up with rice. When it comes to food and drink, it is impossible to leave Tequila behind. I HATE TEQUILA! It literally means I hate Mexico! Because Mexicans love it so much. The first night I arrived at the house coming from the airport with my body exhausted, I nearly got wasted with tequila (it is a tradition where all the foreigners have to get drunk with tequila on the first night). That’s why I don’t have good impression to it. Another drink is Pulque which is an alcoholic drink (Mexican like alcohol and getting drunk and then …..). Pulque is white and tastes good, I like it. My friend said it tastes like sperm lol.

My Several 'First Time'

I did several ‘first time in my life’ in Mexico. I tried the hottest chilli in my whole life. Before that, I tried the orange chilli

sauce and the Mexican said it is the hottest in Mexico, but apparently it is not. When I was in a chicken wing shop, my friend handed me a wing with some kind of sauce and said ‘you have to try it you have to try it’. I had a bite, and then cried for 10 minutes lol, and my nose just can’t stop running! WHAT THE FUCK It is the hottest thing I have ever tasted in my life! Then I was like…kept getting ice to eat jajajaja. It is not fair to cry alone and I just can’t resist to ask Chloe to try. We ended up in the restaurant crying together LOLLL…..Apart from that, it is also my first time to play roller coaster (never dare play it before..). Because they said ‘Superman’ was the highest roller coaster in Latin America, so I really can’t miss the chance and I played it. The damn thing scared the shit out of me! I will never play roller coaster again….Also, first time to ride a horse. It was so much fun! I like whipping my white horse and it ran so fast..(my students told me that ‘of course my

horse’ is an expression in Mexico so we called each other horse. Every morning I said to them ‘good morning my horses, how are you horses?’ LOLL). I had a trip to Acapulco in the last week and it was my first time scuba diving! It was fun but the water was so muddy and I can’t even see a thing underwater. I feel regret now that I didn’t dive in Malta coz the sea is crystal clear and I can really see all the way through to the bottom (for details: Please read http://www.travelblog.org/Europe/Malta/Malta/blog-747225.html).

Culture Shock

I had 2 culture shocks in Mexico. The first one is the Mexican Metro. It is ridiculously packed! For me it is impossible to pack that many people in one single cart, but the Mexicans can do it. They just keep pushing and pushing, and try to squeeze all the people up in the metro. The second shock is that Mexican people normally don’t put the used toilet paper in the toilet but the rubbish bin. So you will see a bin near the toilet with loads of paper with shit in it! I asked my friends why so and the

Tastes good. The most common food in Mexico
reason is they don’t want to clog the toilet…I don’t understand….

Hospitality

I like visiting the local’s house because I think only by doing this I can experience the real culture. Totally I visited 8 different houses and I found the Mexican people are extremely hospitable! This really made me shocked! Their parents are so nice! Some of them even cried when we left the house, and said ‘you have a house in Mexico now, you can stay here next time you go to Mexico.’ It really touched my heart…

Now I am proud to say I am a Mexican, even more mexican than the real Mexican. As I am a member of Banan Banan Club (a group of friends in Mexico), they told me, to become a Mexican, you have to know the Mexican macho (a pose), you have to try the hottest chilli in mexico, you have to be tanned and you never cry. I fulfilled all of the requirements! I love Mexico and I will come back for sure. It is a shame that I didn’t go to Cancun coz it’s so far away and expensive. It is where the Mayan temples and pyramids

PS. A TV channel in Mexico interviewed me when I was in a zoo. I think they chose me because I’m too handsome…

PS. It was also my first time to experience ghost (Mexican ghost)……
