We had hoped for the low cloud that kept on taking the scenery away from our view yesterday but it was still drifting around in the valley allowing peeks at the mountains and then at other times everything in view disappearing altogether.
We took another trek over the fields to the town to have a look through the shops and see what restaurants might be to our taste for tonight. There were signposts indicating other walks in the area and we will give one or more of those a try this afternoon in the hope that the cloud might clear fully later.Along the way we noticed a couple of cats stalking their prey in the meadow. One ginger one stopped his stalking to have his photo taken.
The town had a number of restaurants but as we hadn't had a pizza for a while we thought we might give that a try tonight.Much of the other shopping was for the tourists and the prices for things were out to take all they could from those visiting.
The boulangerie though had a good variety of delicious looking sweet treats, quiches and breads and we got ourselves lunch to take back to the
hotel to have before we headed out for the afternoon hike.
The town had a lookout over the valley below where the highway to Geneva passed by and of course all around there were mountains although the cloud still hadn't clearly fully.Where Mont Blanc should have been was white cloud but we guess at 4,100 metres high the mountain would remain hidden unless all the cloud cleared.
We returned to the hotel and after lunch and a bit of a rest we started out on a hike up the hill behind the hotel. The trail passed by houses that were sited here and there, each with absolutely faboulous views of the surrounding countryside and the mountains.
We walked up in elevation about 400 metres which doesn't sound a lot but where the track went straight it was very steep and then it would zig zag a bit.We eventually got to where the farmland met the forest but our views were still affected by the low cloud in parts which was a bit disappointing. We went into the forest but as we did so we felt spots of rain and so with a good 45 minutes to return to the hotel
we abandoned hiking up any further and started the downhill trek.
Coming down we passed a new subdivision where there were 4 or 5 new houses of modern design under construction. It would be fair to say that they will have one of the best views on earth!
As it happened the spots of rain came to nothing but we were already on our way down and a glass of wine and nibbles before heading out for dinner sounded more attractive right at this moment than turning around and trekking back up the mountainside.
As we finished our pre dinner drinks and nibbles the rain became a bit more persistant and so rather than trying to trek across the paddocks on the trail to the village again we took the car around the road to save getting wet.
We were the first guests in the Pizza restaurant at nearly 7.30pm and so got served right away which was just as well because over the next quarter the restaurant filled up with at least another 20 diners. With the price of the glasses of wine way more than we have been paying in restaurants in Eastern Europe we kept
our intake down and anyway one of us had to drive home. And although we haven't seen a policeman for days you just never know.....!
It will be just our luck if the sun is shining brightly with no cloud around when we wake in the morning and it is time to move on further towards Provence where we have three nights booked near Aix-en-Provence.

fantastic scenery
Enjoying the alpine scenery...just wondering why the blog is consistently a week behind the action? I have visions of you sitting up each night before bed, like a great travel journalist, typing up the days adventures and posting them....
