All built in the past 20 years...wow!
We've just begun our third day in Shanghai -- and although its the fastest growing and most fast-paced city we've been in so far, we seem to have slowed down our pace and have been takin it pretty easy for the past couple of days. Even without the power sightseeing though, we're still having an amazing experience here. Shanghai is an incredibly unique city -- only really developing over the past 20 years!!!!!

Our first day here we did a walking tour of the main parts of the city and then took a fabulous night cruise on the Huangpu River. The morning of day 2 was spent at the Shanghai Musuem. Saw some great stuff there; paintings, stuff about China's ethnic minorities, lots of bronze and ceramic stuff that didn't have much English explanation, and Robbie's favorite part -- a visiting exhibition from The British Museum on Assyria. Our morning museum trip was followed by a totally awesome lunch at Pizza Hut (Yep, its true. Sarah had gone 9 days without pizza and was about to die!) and a visit to the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall. Although some of the other people in the tour group thought we were a

Couldnt even fit in all in the frame...frickin huge.
bit nuts for wanting to go to the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall, we were glad we went, cause it rocked! There was a HUGE model of Shanghai, a model for the proposed site of the 2010 World Expo (which will be held in Shanghai, obviously), and photographs of Shanghai taken in the 1980s (nope, not 1890s...1980s...not that long ago!) compared to photographs taken from the exact same spots around Shanghai in the past couple of years -- the differences were shocking!

Our tour ended last night with a final group dinner and a night out in the city drinking and dancing at a club called Zapata's (fitting since yesterday was Emilio Zapata's actual birthday) -- felt more like we were in Mexico than China!!!

Even though the tour has ended, we've got two days left in Shanghai...more about that soon. We also hope to write more about the people we've been traveling with and our overall impressions of the trip!!!!

Keep writing!
Sounds like you had a good group and guide. The city looks super modern! Are there any old parts that you can also visit to compare? Anxious to see more pictures when you get back!
