Parc Mauricie July 24-27

They have lecture/stories 4 nights a week here. We went the night we arrived, and the naturalist explained about the trout in the park. There is history, power point images, searches in the huge covered tent for hidden treasures that are worked into the story for the children who are in the audience. It is fascinating and full of information that is neither dull or overwhelming. En plus c'est tout en Francais. Jacob and I have been speaking in French all of the time that we have been in Quebec. We have been able to understand almost everything the naturalists are saying, and no one here has switched to English to talk to us.

There were intense thunder storms in the night, but this time we were protected from the winds, so I slept. But the morning promised a day of cold, grey and rain so we went to Trois Rivières in search of poutine and books en Francais. The river side of Trois Rivières is appealing with the large boats of the Saint Lawrence, but its old centre is nothing as spectacular as Vieux Quebec. We did get referred to the best poutine ever, Jake's first. We also found French books for Jacob, before we returned to the forest. It's been unusual to go from city centre to camping spot, a real dislocation. I like it, sleeping in fresh air with beauty surrounding us.

The next morning the sun shone bright and hot again. We went to Lac Du Fou. We had to carry the kayaks 100 metres, not too bad, and definitely worth the effort. This little lake tuns in many directions and is very calm. We had a lovely day kayaking, with lunch on a rock shore that a crested water bird was polite enough to give up to us after a few quank quanks exchanged. We did run into leeches, I screamed, but no damage done. That night the lecture was even better. The naturalist had a real gift for story telling, and surprisingly, we were to tired to go to sleep. We loved the lecture.

Good night and sweet dreams.

au quebec!
I lived in Trois Rivieres et Sept Iles and miss the St. Laurence and nature. Quebec really has a wealth of forest and lakes-rivers! :) Hope that you continue to find amazing journies. Bet doing the Dao Yin in nature has some great applications for sense memories.
