East Hampton main beach
This will be one of those very quick entries. The Hamptons is just across the water from us, but on any given day it could be anywhere from a 90 minute to a 4 hour drive. Especially during weekends in the summer this can be a brutal drive. We made the drive in late June on a Saturday. It actually was not too bad. We drove down the main road from Westhampton Beach all the way to East Hampton - a really pretty drive for the views, the houses, cars, the little towns and the eclectic stores. We made a quick stop at Tate's Bakeshop in Southampton. I love their chocolate chip cookies and their pies are to die for (same with the prices).

The next stop was in Sag Harbor at Muse in the Harbor. One of those places in the summer where the locals come to hang-out, read the paper, and have brunch and mimosas. When you imagine yourself as being a Hamptonite for Manhattan living the life this is probably the type of place you would come to at 11 for brunch and just sit back and read the paper while soaking in the sun. We had

Muse in the Harbor - eggs benedict
the eggs benedict - two Eggs poached on an English muffin with grilled Canadian bacon, Lyonnaise home fries and a hollandaise sauce (pretty good). We also had the tuna menach a trois consisting of 1. Ahi tuna tartar atop Moroccan vegetable tabouli spiked with a wonton crouton 2. Blackened tuna lollipop topped with candied wasabi crust on whipped avocado 3. Hot stone seared tuna carpaccio with seaweed salad (very good, but pretty small portion). The food was good, but it took forever to come out (and it was not busy at all) and it is after-all the Hamptons so 2 brunch meals and $70 later we walked out of there.

We stopped over in Easthampton at the MAIN BEACH. This is considered one of the prettiest beaches in the Hamptons and during the summer it can be pretty hard to get to as you need a parking permit to park (town residents only) and otherwise the parking is really limited. There is a way around it however. Parking is only enforced between Independence Day and Labor Day. So we were there a couple days before 4th of July so we parked, kicked-off our flip-flops and walked around the beach.

Muse in the Harbour - tuna three ways
I spent several summers in the Hamptons teaching tennis and never really appreciated the beaches. It really is pretty at times - especially when the beaches are deserted and there is this haze that hangs over the surf.

We drove all the way out to Montauk, looked at the lighthouse and made our way back to Sag Harbor. We stopped at The Dockhouse for some fish tacos and a sampler platter with tuna, salmon and swordfish. It was really good. Fresh, juicy, well-seasoned and definitely worth the wait - and it won't cost you an arm-and-a-leg. Afterwards we walked right across to B. Smith's which is right in the harbor and have some really spectacular views across the water. You just sit down and have oysters and champagne and watch the million dollar yachts come in after a long day out in the sun.

That's the Hamptons for you. We really enjoy going out there during the summer - once a year. The people watching, the food, the scenery and the farmlands always make this an enjoyable trip. Traffic can be really bad though so be warned.

Well that's all I got. Unfortunately we could not cross-off

anything. So still 224 down and 5,557 to go.

Til next time from the summer playground of the rich

Another scrumptous blog!
Really, I don't think your name should be "Looking for the Dirt Roads," I think it should be "Looking for Scrumptious Treats." You always find the tastiest meals! Well done!

Thank you Tara - I guess if you could summarize us it would be that we always try the back roads and then we love food so all our blogs are always food and driving. Will keep blogging about food.
