So sorry for being so negligent in my blogging this summer. I can't come up with any acceptable excuses for lack of attention to this single responsibility that Sally has given me. We arrived in Connecticut on June 12th. The weather for the first two weeks after our arrival was fantastic. Daily highs averaged in the 70's and the lows at night were in the 50's. Perfect sleeping weather. Most areas of the state had their second wettest June on record. This area had about 9 inches of rain in June which is one reason why the temperatures were so cool. This all came to an abrupt end about two weeks ago when the temperatures shot up into the low 90's and the humidity went up as well. The temperatures have fluctuated in the 80's to mid 90's but the humidity has stayed high. Hopefully it will cool back down soon. We arrived in time for me to attend the high school graduation of a young gentlemen who we have adopted as our camping grandson. He graduated from Norwich Tech and will be attending college in New Haven this fall. Sally has a friend, Blyth Bacome, from the Washington Elementary School
District who came to Connecticut to visit us and see New England for the first time. We have spent the last two week on the go. We have been to the flea market in New Haven, visited the 9/11 memorial in New York City, Newport Rhode Island, Mystic Connecticut, as well as several local state parks. One of the state parks that we visited was Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam Connecticut. The castle was the home of William Gillette, who brought Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's master detective, Sherlock Holmes, to the stage and screen in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The park is not far from the campgrounds and is located on the top of a hill above the Connecticut river. Hey guys! I think this to be a very interesting site to visit. I know nothing of the Gillettes but this guy's home is surely something to see. Thanks for taking us there! I trust your friend from here is having the time of her life right now. Toad and Knob drove off to Colorado today and left me behind to handle the cats and get some work done both in the garage and on the computer. Hope to hear from you soon.
