The wind was doing silly things to my hair!

Day 24 - Wednesday 2nd August

Again I think I could have slept and slept this morning but I dragged myself out of bed, had a full English breakfast, watched an episode of The OC whilst I digested and I was quickly on my way. It was windy and blustery all day with some heavy patches of rain but generally drizzle all the time. I went the wrong way first thing this morning, maybe due to my full stomach pulling much needed blood away from my brain? I went in the right direction (i.e. North) but up a hill I had intended to avoid climbing. Of course it was worth it, with beautiful views as my reward and also it made me walk through my first field of cabbages on my journey which is a good indicator of how close to home I am getting!

The weather didn’t make it very nice walking but still ten hundred gazillion times better than walking in 30 degree heat! The terrain was still small hills and going up and down but every once in a while I caught a glimpse of the Liverpool skyline and the River Mersey to motivate me to

keep going.

As I walked down out of the country into Frodsham I started walking past some houses and I could see into the windows… these are the things I saw:
1. An old man staring out at the rain and at me. I hope I made him smile and glad that he was inside!
2. Someone watching “Cash in the Attic” as I wish I was.
3. A mother and her teenage daughter craning round to get a better look at me walk past. I presume they were watching “Cash in the Attic” as well.

For the last 2 miles today I needed to go to the loo but since I was in Frodsham and not in the back of beyond there were no hedges to nip behind. Then of course the loo in the petrol station was “Out of Order” and the one pub I did pass didn’t open for another hour! This helped in my decision to stay in the Holiday Inn in the south of Runcorn and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was - it even had a pillow menu! So tomorrow I go on the Runcorn Bridge over the River

Mersey and it is good to know that I will be close enough to get a cab back home! (Not that I will be doing this - having come this far I’ve got to finish properly!)

I see you kept the best to last - Runcorn!
Hi Helen, Keep with it, you are doing great! Nice to see some familar names in the blog, Frodsham, Runcorn. If you have time when you get over the Runcorn Bridge turn left and go to the Runcorn Catalyst Museum. Dispite the less than promising sounding name, it's very good, and there is a big tower that you can go up, it might just give you your first view of your destination! http://www.catalyst.org.uk/visit/maps2.htm
