Had a great day visitin Sapphire mining town, blink and you would not miss it, with tailings left and right. Plenty of caravans in Sapphire all hoping to find the big one. The owner of the shop told us that you can still claim sites: look where you want to stake your claim, go to the Mines Department, and you tell them where you stake your claim (you are allowed 30meters square), and put up your caravan or shed, pay the rates yearly and it's yours to mine works out to approx. $900 per year.

Then 15klms further is Rubyvale, where we enjoyed a lovely lunch at the hotel, very popular with the tourists. We decided to head back to Emerald by driving via Capella which was a bigger town than we thought, then home to Emerald. On the road to Capella (69klms) which by the way is tar sealed, we happened across a fresh carcass of a kangaroo in the middle of the road, slowed down, low and behold the biggest eagle I have ever seen, was on the carcass, by the time I got the camera out he had flown away (sorry guys).
