Apparently it’s Monday 22
nd April…and I really have no idea, other than my computer tells me so. So much for keeping an electronic diary every night. But now, I’m determined to do better!! Not sure where to begin. Perhaps since the last entry, which I’m thinking was in Cairns. So we did a bit of maintenance (as one always does when in a marina I’ve discovered). My brother Frog, and his mate Tiny joined us on the 15
th and we set off on the 16
th. Just a short hop and skip up to Double Island. Unfortunately there was no wind, so we had to motor most of the way there. It was a lovely little Island with a small sand spit which we quickly explored upon arrival.
From there it was off to Port Douglas where we decided that the cocktails were just asking to be tasted and we willingly obliged. Hogs Breath for dinner and then off the next morning bound for the Low Isles.
Way below the boat as soon as we arrived we saw a very large dark shape….a huge (possibly a GT, but much darker so Turrum mayhap) and some sharks. This made us slightly
apprehensive about snorkelling, however as there were about 50 other tourists paddling around, we decided for safety in numbers approach and joined in. What an amazing time. Some beach frivolities occurred including 3 men and a bright green Frisbee –it was a sight to see.
4am start the next morning in order to get up to the Hope Islands while the sun was still high so that we could dodge bommies and reef. Had to motor a bit, but then ended up having a lovely sail. Got in good time and anchored somewhat cautiously amongst a coral bottom.
