Mayan
Total Mayan respect! It’s about time that I tried to write something about this part of the leg. Got to the bus station at 6am, I know I said I wouldn’t do that again but this was fine, I just chilled in the station watching music videos, sleepily contemplating using the internet. I decided to call Musa and guess what; she was just in the midst of writing me an email. We had a blinding chat, can’t remember what about now but I know that it was so good to hear each others voices. It gave me a lot of energy.
Chetumal was the gateway to another dimension and its quiet stretched out streets and airy character just added to it. It’s like they built the city and forgot to put people in it. Having said that the 1st 3 hotels I went to were all full, I felt like telling them that they were lying because there was no sign of a single person let alone a town with packed out hotels.
Finally I got somewhere and still had to wait till they cleaned the room. I so badly wanted a shower, so I started to do my thing in the

Total Mayan respect! lobby and take my plates out; the receptionist soon let me into my room without it being cleaned just to get rid of me.
After my shower I was off to look around and get breakfast, the book had already told me that there was one thing to see here and that was the museum about the Maya. Cool, so off I go... and get lost. I mean this city is so mapped out that I still marvel at how I managed it. I wasn’t too off track but it meant by the time I reached the museum I was starving and a little delirious. I wanted coffee, real coffee, not that N*#$%^# crap. I wanted a fruit salad and a fry up; looking around there was nowhere that would serve this stuff. I knew there was no point going into the museum before refueling; I’d just get angry and tired and want to leave so I had to keep searching.
Then I noticed a 4star hotel, I so wish I could remember the name because I cannot express how happy I was to find its buffet style breakfast waiting for me. I had several cups of
coffee, fruit salad and an omelet, all that I had desired and the price felt very reasonable to me. I bounced out of there a new woman and had a whale of a time in the museum. All was well with the world again. After that I headed to the sea front and just sat and watched the Caribbean Sea, I was happy to be heading back to a turf I kind of knew. I took a stroll up and down and around, just to see more of the deserted place. Mapped out where I would go for dinner and retreated back to the hotel for another shower and rest, the sun was baking that day.
I surprise myself at how much I enjoy going out to restaurants on my own, the thought never crosses my mind in England. I get to watch the other’s and think lots with few interruptions. I got to see what I am assuming was middle classed black American family feasting; there was at least 12 of them. It was a little different to the Cosby show. I got to see a couple dine out, well the guy ate and the woman picked,

Total Mayan respect! I would find it hard to believe after seeing her that she wasn’t anorexic and it made me think, what does the guy think? I mean his girl is brittle and he’s probably never seen her eat an actual meal, does he care that she’s fucked up or does he like that she is? Yes this is the fun stuff that runs through my mind whilst eating a plate of tasty prawns and rice and licking back a beer.
I can tell you that I made sure even after another long night of trying to take photos of the cute lizard that would occasionally walk across my window and watching reggaton videos (my favorite pastime when faced on rare occasions with a TV) that I still got my arse up early enough to catch another breakfast at the 4star before heading for the bus to take me to Belize.

Hi Donna, I am the newly published author of a book called "Belize Survivor: Darker Side of Paradise." The book has only been out for a few months, but it's doing so well on Amazon that I'm already upgrading my website. I was really quite taken by your photo entitled "total Mayan respect 1" (as it speaks to a particularly important element in my story) and wondered if you'd be willing to allow me use it. Please respond at your earliest convenience. Respectfully, NK
