The second trek was a hike from Whangaehu Beach to Porangahau beach

Grandson Liam Cook joined me, both of us having done the trip before along the beach, knowing what a rough walk it is, elected to follow the yearly enduro track, which follows the coast around, above the rough beach and gnarly bentonite cliffs.

Set off from Whangaehu 7.30am strolled past Finlay's with a good gasper hike up through Barry's to his pines, Liam dancing along beside me, not at all phased by a bit of uphill. A gentle stroll through the farm pine plantation and we moved onto Hamish Wilson's farm with the beautiful views looking back at Whangaehu and Cape Turnagain. Liam continues to bound up the hills and I am doing it a little bit harder after a great evening at a Porangahau School fundraising Quizz/Auction.

Discipline continues to be a small problem

An hour and half in I call for a tea break, the big themos helping keep the pack weight to 12kgs, along with a couple of weights from Cookies set

From our spot we were able to get a good view of our destination a small knot of pine

As we continued our power hike through the Douglas property and Roy and Noel Stoddart's we had great views of the Coast and inland taking in the Cook's tooth

A fast hour and a half from our tea break, Liam begining to piss me off bounding up the hills, we are at the pine outcrop looking over the Porangahau Bay. A beautiful vista.

"Aaaaaaah, nearly there," my travel buddy,

"You're not interested in distance type sport are you," he must be having so much fun out here with me.

"No,rugby is good, 80 odd minutes, suits me fine".

A short jog down the hill and we are on a busy Easter beach.

Three and a half hours made it a good workout, my travel buddy doing really well.

"Thank you for your company Liam Cook, you did well"

"That's fine Granddad, don't make a habit of it"

The return trip a few days later, was joined by the Spritely Kk and we added the walk from Whangaehu to the top house an extra 5 ks, probably 20 ks altogether. We had a cool Southerly, overcast, a great

Grandson, enjoying the cuppa tea break? Ya reckon!
hiking day. The final climb was nearly a hill too far, but my travel companion did well. A warm welcome by Bro' Rob and the third cup of tea made the day.

A look at the view, a tour of the garden, with a healthy interaction of astral travel and talking to the Kereru, all was well with the world.
