Why breaking the cherry?
The major thing here is putting myself out there.
So why bother?
A long interest in reading and wishful interest in writing. A burgeoning interest in photography and a wish to get involved in all forms of this type of media
With the writing am hoping initially to cover training and participation in The Gobi March, the first, possibly the last, in a four desert campaign and the possibility, in the future, of blogs and other media in charitable fund raising for a local cause.
Combining photography with the writing to both get the photographs out of the PC and shown, with the necessity of improving the photography. As the photography improves adding a gallery.
The Grand plan is tying all this together and getting it out there especially during the Gobi race
The Gobi March - 250 kilometer, self supported race over 6 days, in the China Gobi Desert centered around the city of Bole Google 4desert races for more information
I have had a lot of fun putting the Gobi campaign together, training schedule, the gear, nutrition and now a play with the IT component.
I
have Babara Wood, 15th overall in the Kimberly Roving race, to thank for technical help and suggestions. With that and other help we put together a program, a schedule, THE SCHEDULE, written down, blow by blow, subject to occasional reorganization, but always there, relentless in its build up and tapering to race day. In three weeks training peaks with 5 x 30ks, race weight pack, sports nutrition and freeze dried rations to see how it all fits and make any necessary adjustments............... Cancel flights.
The real fun is trying to put the gear together. Am on my third pack, slight pack fetish, have settled on smart wool toe socks, such happy feet after umpteen try outs, 3rd hydration system, the coffee flavoured perpetuum did not go down well warmed by the 45 degree heat. Running or trail shoes, enduralites, perpetuum, gels, recoverite or some of a myriad of sport nutrition products. The continual process of elimination.
My little team and I decided I was losing too much weight, so another meal, breakfast, was included and more consistent use of energy drinks during training and recovery products after.
In favour of a bit of variety in the training
schedule have moved' to the home hills and beaches of Porangahau New Zealand, then back to the West Australian Desert for the final 6 weeks training
For family and friends a bit of "wheres Wally", I will cover some of the bigger hike/jogs
Easter Saturday was planned a longish walk, Porangahau beach to Porangahau, up through Mangamaire to the Kuru Range, along to the Longest Place Name and down to Wimbledon Road through Rossi Scots.A little change of mind, instead of going up through Mt Pleasant went along Wimbledon Road up the Finger Post to the Cooks Tooth finishing at the top house.
Sunrise over Blackhead as I leave the beach house, no takers on a liberally spread invitation to participate
Porangahau River good for fishing, swimming and muddied bridge jumpers. A kilometer further down the river moves into a large backwash Estuary home of large Cockle beds and Flounder
An hours road hike later our small village of Porangahau, home to approximately 150 people, one Pub, one Dairy, a garage and primary school
On the long climb up to the Range, rewarded with views over Porangahau
and the River Estuary
Contemplating the view from the Kuru Range to the Cooks Tooth over a cup of tea, not exactly run till you drop stuff but so nice to do. Was a three cuppa day.
Looking up the Finger Post over Barry's and Eriha country.A drought year with a green tinge from a 60-80 ml splash
Destination, a warm welcome from Camp Mother Bron. DeeDee and Amber providing the entertainment fussing over decorations for a dinner party, Rourke wandering out of his study cave at the cottage. Was great to be sitting amongst it all on several occasions, great hilarity.
I invite friends and family to persevere, pop in occasionally and comment on progress. Severe criticism, ideas, what could be included, its all going to take practice, practice practice, "10,000 hours"
Thanks for stopping by
