Undara and walk to Atkinson's lookout 032Undara and walk to Atkinson's lookout 032Undara and walk to Atkinson's lookout 032

One of the railwy carriages being use as part of the bistro
Left Charters Towers and headed for Undara with a thought of maybe stopping over night halfway, a fairly uninteresrting trip along the Gregory development road, which is used by road trains of which we only saw 3 all going the other way. We did see several emu's and a dead pig along with heards of cattle.Stopped off at Greenvale road house for fuel and decided to give the campground a miss and so pushed on to Undara a total since leaving Charters Towers of some 400+ks. Apart from some sections only being single lane with gravel sides for moving over onto to alow someone to overtake or pass in the opposite direction the road was ok and allowed us to travell at 80k with the cruise control on, speed limit is 100k-110k.

Arriving at Undara we had requested a drive through site (I am still not that good at backing up my van) and we were given a huge drive through with our own inground fire pit(all sites have them).Lots off empty sites at the moment but we expect that to change by Friday when the concert starts.Settled in and headed for the bistro and bar, dinner time.Jackie decided on Loin of Kangaroo I settled for Northern Territory Barramundy with Macadamien crust guess who got the best deal.We ended the meal by going outside to sit around a camp fire with fello guests and be entertained by a guy playing guitar and singing country songs a great way to end our first day a Undara.

The park is quite large and roomy with both powered and unpowered sites although only 29 caravan sites. Also there are already erected tents and what is quaint ,is you can also sleep in an old railway carriage, which also seem to be the theme for a lot of the ameinities including the bistro, we had last nights meal in a railway carriage

Today we did a small walk to Atkinson's lookout only 3.84ks, 2.4miles an easy walk through some bush to a lookout taking some photo's as we went. We noticed a distinct lack of wildlife apart from the sounds of the birds, although we did see a mob of kangaroos this morning whilst having breakfast form outside our caravan. Tomorrow we have booked a 4hr tour of the Lava tubes and other interesting places, so hope to have some interesting photo's. Tonight we
