Yep..i've had it all this last week. So much for chilled out times in this city that i'm almost calling home!

here's a quick rundown...

just an hour ago...thought i'd been in a motocycle crash when the moto Socheata and I were on (having just had a great interview with Jan Nye at the Cambodia Trust, an org that does lots of good work in Cambodia re disability and rehab) came to a bonewrenching stop on Pasteur right near the main market 'Psar Thmei'. Once i'd recovered and reverted back to my atheist self (why is when you have a death defying moment you always pray to something?), I was angered, if not LIVID to see that it had just been an arrogant policeman stepping out infront of us (at 30kmh) and hitting the moto with his baton. A long and drawn out huffing and puffing session then went on until it became clear that the moto driver would have to pay between $150-300 to the customs dept coz he didnt have the 'right' (if there ever are right) papers for his bike. so there's me feeling awful for this guy and nearly ripping this policemans head off when Socheatas v.v.big Brother in Law (who also happens to be a policeman) turns up and with a few hands shaken and inner thighs rubbed (yes, Khmer men are rather affectionate with each other in a purely hetero way) off we could toodle with no fine or bribe! amazing!

what else...

made two great new friends in the last couple of weeks..Helena, our darling little swede headcase, and Kam, our supercool ladies man (and loving it)..both of whom studied in London (at SOAS and UCL) so we're all on the same wave length and have managed to create our own little 'culture gang' where we fill our days with swimming and Pimms at Elsewhere, browsing markets and second hand bookshops..popping into cafes and spending hours crying with terror at Helena's HIDEOUS (we love you Ruth!) stories that ultimately revolve around rats, mice, hedgehogs that eat people alive and dirty flashers on the bus near holborn. hmm. oh....and we had an especially 'cultured' evening last thursday when we trooped off to the cinema with the guys from CDPO to watch possibly the most scary film i've ever set eyes on....

it consisted of...two greasy-haired topless twin brothers, one good, one bad...the latter of whom has sick and twisted powers that allow him to turn into a croc when ever he gets the fancy..which is usually whenever pretty girls are washing (fully clothed ofcourse) in the river. so after a few mangled corspes pop up in the local dipping spot, a witch hunt is on and alongside this storyline there serious issues in the local Dons house and so ensues a war between his three wives and their daughters. anyway...long story short etc, its full of wicked women pouring boiling water over each others faces and burying each other in the ground...not forgetting the forcing of acid down two womens throats..yummmm

ofcourse it all turns out ok, baddy croc killed and goody greaseball gets the girl but I tell you....I was not alright!! nauseous is the word...but pretty hilarious also describes our faces as we came out...ahh...and then off to dins at a local Khmer Karaoke place that also double as a brothel...so all in all....GREAT EVE!!

Oh! and how can i forget??? HEART OF DARKNESS on Saturday!! this was actually one of the best dancing nights i've had in years...cheese and golden oldies (in the sense of backstreetboys old not Cliff Richard old..bleugh) at this legendary PP nightspot couldn't have got me moving my denimclad bottom any more that Oakenfold could (and Mon, you know thats saying something!)...even after the electricity went down at 2ish we didnt stop and ended up in Spark!, favourite of the local Khmer Yuppies...and danced for another few hours on a weird shiny floor that you could slide all over..so ofcourse, the dancing just got better and better...but it was the tom and jerry shows on the big screen hanging from the cavernous domed roof though that made the night!! ahhhhhhh....

anyway...ofcourse...been doing loads of work too...but you don't wanna hear about that 😊

kiss x

I can´t believe it
I thought that Helena had nothing else on her mind than hard work and frequent prayers. You must have totally corrupted my innocent niece. I will talk to her parents and God. We will most likely put her in a monestary, and it´s all your fault!
