It has been ages since i have had chance to make a diary entry, so i am taking advantage of my first night off in 4 days, combined with a flat spell (typical!!) to let you all know what i have been up to. So much has happened, i don't know where to begin?????

Work at the surf school is amazing!!! I can't think of a single bad thing about the job. We are really busy know and there are loads of lessons on offer. All The instructors that work there are all a really good laugh and the banter good. The best thing about the job is the amount of different people you get to meet. We are running 6 lessons a day with up to 20 people in each. I have taught doctors, lawyers, children, a Flemish family and even a group of 20 blokes from an addictions rehabilitation clinic how to surf. There were even two lads from Warrington at the school all last week. They were both really good, so obviously Warrington is an undiscovered hot bed of surfing talent:-)

My second job in the kitchen is starting to get really full on now that all the Grockles (local slang for gypsies like me) have arrived in force. Every night is really busy, and the last thing i feel like doing after a full day teaching is spend another 6hrs in a hot kitchen. However, it will all be worth while when i am surfing everyday in Costa Rica this xmas. The rest of the staff are all doing the same as me, and we all have a laugh as much as possible. I also can't afford to give the job up as i think they would charge me for all the food i eat....... which is alot!!!!! As yet i have been pretty lucky and not missed a swell due to having to work, i have however been late cos i was surfing. Turned up 10 minutes late and ended up looking good as all the other surfers that work there rolled in 20 minutes after me. Get on!!!

We finally got our house last saturday, so i am now living in the next village out of Croyde called Georgeham. The house has five bedrooms and a massive garden with a big pond with carp in. I managed to blag the largest room which is an added bonus. Already had a couple of gatherings, but nothing yet to rival the partys of 60 Hale Road. Rest assured we will have a huge mash up to beat all mash ups before the summer is out. It is amazing how simple luxurys make a huge difference. I can now take a crap in the middle of the night without having to walk 200yds to a farm house. I can shower every day (I think the longest i went in a tent was 4 days without a shower..... i know, i stink!!!) and my finger nails are finally clean. We have a flat screen TV in the lounge and as yet i have resisted the temptation to watch neighbours, Home and Away and This Morning. (I am a changed man. lol!!!) I think i will have to watch this Morning on my next day off though to see if Fern is still a MILF:-)

My surfing has got pretty good now. The best thing about the surf school is there are so many boards to ride. I have been riding swell boards, soft tops, long boards, thrusters and fishes depending on the conditions. It really developes your surfing and style beeing able to practice on such different equipment. I have got to know a few of the locals and there are so many good surfers that work at the school, every time we go out surfing there is a friendly competetive atmosphere to get the best waves. I have surfed the biggest surf ever at a beach called Puttsborough. We had a huge swell a few weeks ago and the beach at Croyde got red flagged. We went to Puttsborough and the surf was 7-8ft on the face. Took a proper beating on my first two waves then got it dialled and droped in to some absolute bombs!!

Going out has been limited due to working in the evenings. However, when i do get a night off i make sure i do it in style. There is always someone to go out with, guys from the school, people from the Manor. It is also a bonus that whenever you go out there is an endless supply of clients from the days lessons at the school wanting to buy drinks to say thank you. The only club we have is a place called Mariscos Disco in Woolacombe. If you imagine Mr Smiths in Warrington on a smaller scale, but full of surfers instead of chavs, thats it. I went there last friday and had been wearing really strong high factor sun blok on my face during the day. I thought i had washed it all off, and under daylight it looked like i had. However, the ultra violet lights of the disco soon found me out and i spent the whole night with a face glowing bright yellow. Had to sink a few extra tequilas so i didn't care about people laughing at me.

There have been a few, but not enough, visits from the northern massive. Pete and Eva spent 4 days down here, during which time i taught here to surf better than Pete can. Nick and Becca also came over the same weekend. Obviously, i don't even need to tell you all what happend. Yeap, Nick had a few beers and then drunken narcolepsy kicked in and he fell asleep in the sand dunes on the beach. Well done Pounder!!! Emma also came down for a few days which was cool. Luckily the campsite had a plug for a hair dryer (I did have to check first). Unfortunatley, Emma brought the weather from Manchester and it rained a fair bit. Since then we have had gorgeous sunshine every day. Never mind, we still managed to have a good time.

Thats about all i can tell you on a web site that my mum can read, so if i get the chance over the next few days i will give you all a call. I don't have much credit on my phone so if anyone wants to call me that is ok too!?

Adios

Johnboy (no longer a pikey in a tent) Ellis

Grockel B@stard!!
Mate sounds like you are missing home loads, with all your partying, surfing, sunshine and flat screen filled days!!! I also "dialled in and droped a few bombs" of my own last week, yes I ordered an indian take-away over the phone and my farts were proper bad! Helen was most definitely not stoked! :-) Oh yeah it's the 6-week holidays for me, I'm off to the Cricket at Old Trafford on Saturday and then next Thursday I'm off to Scott's for a week, although I recon it's hotter im my garden than San Sebastian at the mo! Amazingly despite not having to work I too have managed not to watch much daytime TV, and I don't need to, to tell you that Fern is most definitely not a MILF, unless you watch that advert for them crisps where they stick her head on a models body! The fun you can have sticking peoples heads on other bodies!! Anyway the car I recon I'm gonna get is in Cornwall so if I have to go down there have a butchers, or to collect it I may drop in on your brand new den of iniquity. B0llocks this is John's travel blog not my sitting at home infront of the TV journal - John will ring ya in a few days, when you have done some more interesting stuff! Jeff
