Edit Blog Post

Right back with the blog i was finnishing the next day about a week ago. I have sorted out the laptop ( when i say "I have" i mean of course a 12 year old in a shop did it for me) so fingers crossed all should be OK.

So after Hue it was a long not very nice 14 hour bus ride up to Hanoi. I,m staying at a small place in the old quarter called "The Posh Hotel" i think Posh is pushing it abit but it is very nice. I'm on the 5th floor and have a balcony which is nice except the balastrade around it is only about 2 foot 6 high puts the wind right up me standing out there, convinced i'm going to go kerpertaling over the edge.

Spent about a week here doing a whole host of museums, markets and other sights. I had planned to go from here up to Halong bay but my visa is about to run out so had to put that trip on the back burner for now.

So left Hanoi and went up to Chiang Mai in northern thailand. I came here before afew years ago but was ill the whole time, got the hump with the place and left without really seeing anything so came back to give it another chance.

I woke up the first morning with a bit of a cold thought nothing off it and went out for the day. Slowly through the day it got worse untill my head felt like it belonged to someone else, and someone who hadn,t been taking very good care of it. By the next day my left eye, which had been crying almost constentlly, had closed up and stuck itself shut. I'd also got a big bruise across the bridge of my nose where i can only assume I punched myself in my sleep. Feeling all a bit unhappy with life i dragged myself off my death bed and off to the Pharmacy, not before scaring the life out of the receptionist with my weeping, bruised and palsied face. The chemist spoke good english--so at least one of us did as I was just moaning and dribbling. He decided I had some sinus infection or other gave me some jollop and 36 hours later i was as good as new.

Theres clearly something about Chiang mai that dosn't agree with me which is a shame as its a really nice place. Its a fair size city but dosn't really feel like it. Its very laid back with none of the horrendous traffic of Bangkok, good food and lots of bookshops half the contents off are now in my bag.

So apart from being ill I had a really good time in Chiang Mai. Next stop is Singapore via Bangkok so will update soon.
