Pete and I many years ago lived and worked in the small town of Kyabram (population then was 3,000) located not far from the big city of Shepparton. We have revisited this very flat, fruit growing area several times and always enjoy the familiar scenery and visiting old friends here. Kyabram also has a very famous wildlife fauna park based here and well worth a visit every time.
Well it has been 3 days of non-stop visiting where we have shared many memories and delicious meals with our old friends. We have had a wonderful time with a highlight also of being able to take a photo of a gum tree Pete helped to plant 13 years ago in the local Show grounds in memory of his brother who tragically died in a motorcycle accident. The tree is huge now and just beautiful. It was very moving to just stand under it and recall our times spent here with John.
Today we spent the day in Echuca, a nearby town on the Murray river, where we had an exciting cruise on the paddle steamer PS Pevensey, famed for her starring role as PS Philadelphia in the acclaimed mini series

Had my haircut today by an old friend, Sheryl, in Kyabram and then spent the night in the van on her section so that we could merrily drink some wine and not worry about driving. Her grown up children are very musically talented and we had a great night listening to them singing and playing their guitars.
Ventured off today east again and are now in Ned Kelly Country, the notorious bank robber who has made quite a name for himself in these parts since his hanging in the early 1900’s. Visited his jail cell today in Beechworth and took a guided walk around his old haunts and pubs today! He certainly led quite a colourful life considering he was only 24 when he died! We even had a drink in his local today! Another extremely hot day today in the late 30 degrees centigrade so the we certainly do welcome the drop in temperature in the late evenings to cool things down slightly.
This afternoon we visited the historic one street town of Yackandandah! What a name and then moved on to RV friendly town of Tallangata where we have parked for
the first time for 3 months in a powered site! We immediately put on the air conditioning unit which saw our interior temperature of 41 deg C move slowly down to 33 deg C so that we could comfortably have a cat nap.
Tessa phoned earlier to tell us that Sydney got up to 45.8 deg C which is the hottest recorded since 1939.
We are heading towards the hills in the hope that it will get colder but it certainly doesn’t seem to be making any difference at the moment.
