We took the 12 hour sweaty overnight bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai – not good. Arrived there 6am and couldn’t check in till 2pm – nightmare! We went for a little walk around to find somewhere to get brekkie then found a lovely park to read our books then eventually 2pm came to check in. About bloody time too! lol Chiang Mai is a lovely little place – well the old part anyway – with a crumbling walled fortress around it. So pretty! We had a little cat nap then rented bikes to do some sightseeing – push bikes not motorbikes this time. We went to see two temples then decided we hated using push bikes and after an hour and a half we left them back – too much effort! Lol
Next day we went to an Elephant Sanctuary – the owner bought elephants that had been used to carry trees up and down mountains, underfeed and basically mistreated – they were even given speed to keep them going when they were exhausted – big trunks like that it must have to give them quite a bit haha We fed them bananas and sugar cane, rode them through
the jungle bare back because mounting seats on them hurt their little backs - then got into a pond and bathed them – flipping crazy a big elephant lying in the pond and you scrubbing its back haha Never thought wed ever be so lucky as to experience something so amazing!
Last night in Chiang Mai we decided to head out for a few drinks after dinner – wed been really good and stayed away from alcohol after bad times in Bangkok. Everywhere seemed really quiet then eventually found a bar that the music was pumping and was really busy. Got a few drinks then sat down and looked around and noticed that there were no western females in the bar and full of old white men with Thai girls draped around them. Not such a great place for a couple to have drinks lol
Lots and lots of love to all friends and family back home!!
