Le candalaria
So we made it to bogota after a 13 hour connecting flight from london to paris to bogota. We arrive not knowing what to expect really after hearing many stories about colombias past and lots of fear being driven onto us from the foreign advice bureau website. But after arriving in the late afternoon, we are pleasantly surprised that bogota is less third world and more like a european city.

We have had a few problems in bogota but most mainly due to a bit of bad luck, adams bag didnt arrive with our plane and was left in paris however he was given a lovely white tshirt, 100 euros and a free toothbrush as he didnt have it. Next our ordered taxi decided not to turn up so we en up getting in a big queue for taxis and hoping for the best. We got the taxi to la pinta hostel in the chapinero district as we read this was the nicer area and it turned out to be a great location in im sure is a lot more of a richer area of bogota.

The most impressive thing in bogota that we did was going up cerro de montserratte, about a 1-2 hour walk upwards ascending about 1500m above where we are, hearts pounding but when you get there the views are spectacular over the city. We also got the fonicular train down which changed getting down into a 5 minute trip! We then went to le candalaria which was a bit more dodgeville but visited all of the museums and also the plaza which was a nice mix of history of the town. The police presence was huge but you can imagine if they werent there how dangerous the area around could have been. We didnt feel in danger at all. We also visited the church of santa marta which seems to be in need of a refurbishment but was very impressive inside.

We then went back to the hostel and got ready for a cultural night of drinking on the town! We went out to Zona Rosa and the G district, and we had a great night of aguardiente, liquid nitrogen martini cocktails and disco fever! We could have been anywhere in europe so ended up staying out till 3 in the morning....queue the story of "adam and the buso perdida!" The next day involved adam entering his pin number in wrongly 3 times to make his card no longer work and also nursing our hangover at altitude. We are now getting ready to leave for our next part of the trip to santa marta for the jungle trek!! Flying in dos horas!
