Perfectly well behaved and well organised
A three day Sports Meeting for 3600 students might seem like a logistical nightmare, but day one of three, complete with opening ceremony ran seemlessly. Students and homeroom teachers have obviously been preparing for some time, but only this last week have I noticed an abundance of flower posies in one class, a pile of matching novelty tops in another, music blaring from the Ground Track Field and groups of kids wandering round with stopwatches and costumes. The riot of colour was the result of all 78 classes having their own banner and fancy dress theme. The PLA made an impressive appearance with six lion dogs, a red and a gold dragon, plus drums and cymbals marching team. After an Olympic scale march in, followed by whole school health hustle, the students were enjoying relaxing, chatting, catching up on Homework, napping, snapping photos, competing, cheering each other on and generally having a good time away from their rigorous usual 6am to 10pm routines. Movie night tomorrow, in place of the usual evening of supervised homework, then finishing up at the usual end of week time of 3pm Saturday.

Class of students from Qinghai. Learning English as third language, after Tibetan and Chinese. I was sung a greeting on my first visit to their class.

Loving your blog!
Thanks for your blog Jacinta - I'm learning a lot about China and it's a great way to keep in touch. You should know that you're getting an audience at school - I've heard your blog mentioned in conversations in the staff room!
