Machu Picchu

Hotel was amazing we were booked into a two bedroom suite that was probably bigger than our whole house with great views over the mountains and garden. Took a walk into town which was a little run down however they were busy preparing for a concert on the town square. Still feeling a little tired with the altitude we decided on an early night.

Thunderstorms woke us but eventually we slept and in the morning the sun was shining. The train to Aguas Calientes was like a flight with passports to show and a meal served during the trip. Staff so friendly and we soon arrived in Machu Picchu. From here the bags were collected by hotel staff and we boarded the bus to the top, what a journey! The road was barely wide enough for two buses but somehow they managed. From here a guide took us to the Inca ruins. They were amazing and no photo could do them justice. She gave us a lot of history about the Incas and Spanish and about how the Incas terraced the mountains and moved massive slabs of stones up the mountains, and all to be nearer to their god the sun god. The mountains were surrounded in clouds and it started to rain. We completed the two and a half hour tour and came down to the bus station and the queue to get down was very long- understatement. We ate, then singing always look on the bright side of life we decided to queue, it was miserable but eventually we got the bus and dried out in the hotel. Room quite a bit smaller than before

We walked to the hot springs that Aguas Calientes is also famous for, went shopping and ate meeting other happy people in the restaurant. The market is huge and silver not expensive also good value are the baby alpaca mats and cushions etc. lovely restaurant across from the hotel, going to sleep now as we want to go back to the Inca temple tomorrow at 5.30

Really can't remember what that is but we have had a bit of mist in the mornings. We mist the family, we mist our friends we mist the weather in England!
