Kayaking!:))Kayaking!:))Kayaking!:))

I think that is Volcán San Pedro in the back ground.
This weekend I went to Lake Atitlane for the day with my roommate. We scheduled a tour with Outfitters. And it was a very well put together. I wound up being just me and Kim and the guide. I wouldn’t have had it any other way. We had to wake up at five to be at outfitters (a twenty min walk) by six to meet the guide. So we zombie walked through the early morning of Antigua without coffee and breakfast. We timed it perfect because are guide arrived a little after we did. Kim and I decided that we would take turns being in the front. I’d get it on the way there and she would get it on the way back. Our guide handed me his iPod and said ok you’re the dj. So as the sun was rising we sang and dances to 50 cent, John Mayer, The Jackson five to Snoop Dog etc… With all of this good music we needed some coffee to really enjoy it so we stopped at a restaurant on the way. It just happens to be the best breakfast I have had here (don’t let Marie know…). I had pancakes with syrup

and papaya, with beans, eggs and ham with salsa on top, Plus a side of Guatemalan coffee! While we waited for our delicious meals we were shown how to make our own tortillas, and we got to make our own for are breakfast. I’d have to say that takes a lot of practice! My tortilla wasn’t exactly round haha. It tasted amazing though! After our stop for much needed coffee we continued on are road trip. The music played just a bit louder now. We arrived at Lake Atitlan around ten ish. We parked and gathered are stuff and set out for the boats that would bring us to the hotel where we would be renting the kayaks. We sat on the “chicken boats” for about fifteen minutes then set out for the lake. The people that lived around Lake Atitlan used the boats instead of buses to get from place to place. The boat ride was about five to ten minutes. We then arrived at this gorgeous hotel that was hidden by the trees from the world. But we did get to explore because it was kayaking time! After applying sun cream to our pale skin we carefully got

into the kayaks (mine was blue!). Our guide told us to practice while he got into his. Kayaking is a lot more difficult than it looks. Going straight was a big issue for me. We kayaked the beautiful lake for about an hour and forty-five minutes. We did end up stopping to swim at this cliff which was amazing! Getting out and back into a kayak from the water is even more difficult but quite funny! We then arrived at another hotel or maybe a hostel… I don’t remember. We changed into shorts, shirt and hiking shoes. We then hiked all the way back to the first hotel we stopped at to rent the kayaks. The hike was through small towns around the lake to small one person trails to rocks and small streams. Our guide ended up ordering our lunch from the hike because me and Kim could only talk about food, and this way our chicken burritos and banana smoothies would be ready when we arrived. And they were the best thing ever! After eating we returned to the chicken boat and back to the car to jam out. We stopped again for coffee at a little barista in town. We walked around and saw all the home made crafts. Everything was for a “special price” lol. We made it home just in time for dinner! But it turns out everyone in the house, including me, was sick… let’s just say that’s not the night I had planned after along hike.
