Angkor Wat
This face was 5 stories high and there was about 20 of them all with different expressions Well it's a very sad day for everyone, this is my last blog. i know, i know, it's been great for all of you, but the ride is over!
Well Kristen and I are in southern thailand right now on the island of koh pha ngan. we've had a litte R and R for the past few days to make up for our busy schedule. i last left off in vietnam, when we were about to leave for cambodia. well we were only able to spend 5 days in cambodia, most people were skeptic when we told them our timeline, but we made it through. we bussed to pnom penh on june 30th. the next day we woke early and went to a prison and a killing field...it wasn't a very happy day. i felt so ignorant the entire time because i had no idea of all the problems that cambodia has faced in the past 20 years. there was 3 million people killed in the span of 4 years and i had absolutly no idea that any of it happened. we went to the S-21 prison which used to be a primary school that was converted to a prison
to torture people. we then moved on to the killing fields where there were so many mass graves that they still hadn't completley cleaned the area up. walking around clothes were coming out of the ground all over the place and piles of bones waited to be collected. it made me so thankful to be born in a place like canada. sometimes you need a shock like that to see how lucky you really are.
that night was canada day and kristen and i had to represent our country. so we donned in the reddest clothes we could fine (we were both in pink, the closet thing we could find!). The english folks we were with were game for a party since england was playing in the world cup. but alas, enlgand lost and everybody was in a pretty sad mood so our canada celebration went a little bust. oh well, there's always next year.
the next day we caught another bus to siam riep. i now know what it feels like to be a celebrity!! there was a mass crowd waiting for us as soon as we got off the bus. they were all in our faces
the prison
Getting a guided tour through the prison. and pulling us into their tuk-tuks. it got to the point of almost being scary because they just wouldn't listen to us when we said no, luckily a nice man pushed them aside for us and showed us to a tuk-tuk driver that was waiting patiently on the street. the next morning we were up at 4 am, so we could get to angkor wat for sunrise. we got there in time, as well as a huge mass crowd. i wasn't looking forward to site seeing with that many people around, but realized that i had no choice. so we waited for a little while for the sunrise, and being prairie girls we soon realized that it was way to cloudy to be able to see it. so we went ahead into the temple. well not as many people are as smart as us, so when we got in it was just kristen and i with about 10 other people. it was amazing to say the least. there are no guards or roped off areas, so the entire compound is yours to explore. these temples were made in the early 12th century and are so amazing they take your breath
Canada Day
While everyone was in good spirits. the people are the english folk that we've been travelling with since vietnam away. sorry, but the pictures don't do them justice at all. there are about 20 temples and it takes about 3 days to see them all. kristen and i being on tight time schedule opted to do it for a day and see the major ones.
the next day we caught a bus to bagkok. we had heard horror stories about the road from siam riep to the border. apparently the only company that flies in and out of siam riep pays off the goverment so that they don't fix the road, thus more people will fly instead. well the stories were true. the road had crater size potholes in it that would send us flying out of our seats on a regular basis for about 6 hours. i don't think that my bum has recoverd yet. from bangkok we caught a night train to surat thani which is the hub for southern thailand. after all those buses, the night train felt like we were travelling first class. once in surat thani our original plan had been to go west to the island of koh phi phi and spend 2 days there and then go east to koh pha
beach
My view as i lay on the beach everyday ngan. however once we were in surat thani and it was 7 am and we have been on busses for the past 2 weeks an executive decision to just go to koh pha ngan was made. to get to the other side was a 6 hour bus ride, with a 3 hour boat ride, where as the east was a 2 hour boat ride. so i'm a little sad that we're not seeing as much as the south that i wanted, but it's raining on the west and i think i may have a nervous break down if i see another bus. so it's really in the best interest of my mental health to just stick here.
koh pha ngan has been a little crazy to say the least. it's known as the party island, and definalty lives up to its name. there's a party on the beach everynight until 7 am, and tonight is the full moon party which brings about 10, 000 people to the same beach all night. there are buckets that are sold all along the street which consist of rye, red bull and sprite. i don't know if i'm ever coming home. well i
need to go and work on my tan...it's a tough life here.
love adrienne
P.S. did you know that you can fit a live cow and 2 full grown men on a motorbike....well apparently you can.

Girl, you look so dark and thin as a rail! Good thing you're coming home soon or you'd waste away! Glad to hear you're having a good time, see you soon.
