to Munich

We walked to the Salzburg train station, about 10 minutes, easy walk on flat sidewalks, and caught the 9:51am train to Munich. It was a nice 2 hour ride in air conditioning. We had to transfer to a local train iin Munich to get to the airport. Then we had to take a taxi, 15 euro, to our Holiday Inn Munich Airport.

We had planned to go into the city but it was very expensive and time consuming to travel there: 10 euro shuttle back to the airport, 20 euro to and from the city, and 10 to shuttle back. We decided to hang out at the hotel, which was very modern and nice with good AC and WIFI.

We took a walk and explored the village next to the hotel. The hotel recommended Italian restaurant a few blocks away. We made a reservation for 8 pm and walked home. I picked poppy seed pods from the beautiful little wild poppies along the road, which I have admired thoughout Europe. I thought they would look great in my prairie garden!

The rest of the afternoon was spent working on blogs, internet, checking in at Delta, reading, relaxing, thinking back over the past six weeks of travel. Gary took pictures of the airplanes flying over the corn fields on their way to land at the Munich airport.

Dinner was very, very good. We sat outside in the garden and had a bottle of white wine. Gary’s taste buds have changed on this trip: now he LOVES tomatoes with vinegar and salt, and green olives! He had a tomato and onion salad, and I had insalada mista. We split the homemade pasta dish with squid and calamari in a tomato sauce, delicious!

Back to the hotel to get ready for the big day tomorrow: HOME and baby ANDY!
