Diving in Komodo

Having been on the road for almost 7 months I feel contentment in just stopping. Whilst enjoying the cycling adventure it is nice not to have the pressure of needing to reach the next destination using pedal power!

Sorry the blog has been neglected. We had written up daily until our arrival in Laos but just lacked internet access to post it as we went. I will post the entries but please don't feel any obligation to read the numerous back entries. We rose to the challenge of cycling through the hills and mountains in northern Vietnam and Laos and were glad we did. It turned out to be one of our favourite parts of the journey with stunning scenery and quiet roads.

We made a last minute decision to fill an empty 10 days before we fly to Japan with a diving trip to Komodo. I would highly recommend any divers to venture here. It takes an extra flight from Bali but is worth it. We did a three day Liveaboard with Divinedivers and the dive sites were beautiful. It was the first dive trip I haven't felt sea sick on as the sea remained flat as a mill pond! There were stunning fish like in Thailand but the coral was absolutely gorgeous and a lot more alive than parts of Thailand. There were reef sharks, turtles, mantas, octopus and we saw our first frogfish. The only unpleasant experience was a jelly fish in my face on the night dive. The sting was really burning, it was the first time I've had to abort a dive but thankfully it was almost gone by the morning.

The locals on Flores island are friendly and smiley and Labuan Bajo is a fairly sleepy town. We watched a local football match taking place in a rainstorm, which was fun and yes, rolling around on the floor with an 'injury' has reached this part of the world too. The weather, like at home, is not following the usual pattern, it is supposed to be the dry season!

I'm feeling such a lucky lady to be on this adventure and to have this amount of quality time with George. I also am really appreciating the outdoor life and being able to enjoy so many views into the distance. I find it really restful for the eyes and mind but I guess I always was a day-dreamer!

Tomorrow we fly back to Bali.
