Travelling dentist and Jenny on the Jenny B
By the dawn's early light we brought up a muddy anchor and headed into Townsend Bay. Picture this. In a rolling boat I am feverishly trying to post a blog while I still have internet connections and BJ is at the wheel trying to avoid a large barge seemingly intent on a collision course. A little while later with the Olympic Mountains towering off to our left we seem to have the Straits of Juan de Fuca all to ourselves. Through the San Juan Islands and into the Gulf Islands where we cleared customs in Bedwell Harbor, and on up in Trincomali Channel we overtook the "Jenny B" and I called him on the radio and invited ourselves over for a yarn when we both arrived in Nanaimo where we both eventually anchored by about 8:00 PM. We dinghied (that is a verb) over to their boat wine in hand for a delightful visit about their boating career in Alaska. This is their 22nd trip ( 45 times up and back) where they move from camp to camp, village to village and practice dentistry on their boat. They built the boat themselves when they were raising a family, bringing them along.

Dental chair in the salon of the Jenny B
It has a dental chair in the salon, and plenty of supplies, freezer space, and snapshots on the wall of memories. Now they also practice in Puget Sound where many of their old patients have moved. Also aboard was a friend, a retired logger who is helping them as they are getting older. So we shared places to visit, stories of adventures, interesting people to meet and just boating "stuff." We hope to cross paths again perhaps in Port McNeill.
