Setting Sun
Jon is bobbing on his board somewhere out there We all got watching gripping films on the flight back from The Galapagos to the mainland, but as the three of us (Lisa, Jon and I) were all getting off at Guayaquil to save the 14 hour bus journey from Quito to Montanita we all missed the last 30 minutes... Well, small price to pay hey!!! We dropped lucky with the buses, one was leaving for Montanita in 20 minutes so we jumped on that, which also meant we'd be there before dark... Bonus... With Titanic the film of choice, we settled down to a bit of drama but were soon distracted as after about an hour of the journey we hit the coast and literally cruised by the pacific ocean for the remaining 2 hours....As that film goes on for HOURS.... We obviously missed the end of that too as we hopped off the bus after everyone else thanks to a bit of local knowledge... We knew we wanted to stay on the beach and not smack bang in the middle of Ecuador's biggest surf and party town....The hostel we'd been recommended Kundalini, was a bit pricy $60 per room but as there were 3 of us, we thought we

and I think Jon is still catching the waves could handle a bit of location, location, location, being smack bang on the beach with hammocks outside our air conditioned room, complete with outside surf shower and inside hot water shower... Not bad for £13 each hey!! And Lisa's a great person to be around, fun, entertaining, loads to talk about with....So there we were on our first night in Montanita, beers in hand, watching the surfers as the sun went down.....After a wander into town (5 minute stroll along the beach) we hit cocktail alley, which is the best.... Not only do they serve the best and biggest bowl of fruit salad for £1.50 but it comes alive at night with a cocktail shaking street party... AMAZING.....Whilst Jon hired his board for the three days and hit the waves at the crack of dawn and sun down everyday when the waves were at their best.... Lisa and I dived the local dive sites, where we missed the Manta Ray by a second but did see plenty, including a yellow sea horse, quite happy to let us peer at him and an octopus, just a couple of the highlights.... We also took a surf lesson and impressively caught quite a
It's a hard life
All that surfing catches up with you, time for a girls night out few waves.... No standing up though... A bit more practise needed for that...We left Jon out to party one night, the night before we were diving as you can't drink much before you dive.... I know I know... I can't drink much anyway but.... He stayed out partying until he stumbled home at 3:30am after a good dance and many a cocktail and shot.... You just can't help yourself here, everyone is so friendly and in the mood for a good time....The only question left to ask is how the heck they manage to get up and surf every morning.... Must be because it's such good surf and that's what the Ocean does to you.... Helps you enjoy life just that bit more and forget the pain of even the worst hangover....Great place, great few days, fab people... Mike and Russians and all their advice on traveling Venezuela, hope Lisa gets to go it sounds out of this world.... Our lovely Argentinean neighbours and Jon's surfboard buddies... And Fabio thanks for running the best cocktail stall in town... Your boom box rocks!!!!!
