Red Hills of Sedona

The transitition from the desert valley of Phoenix and Scottsdale to the mountains of Sedona is a beautiful and relaxing drive. Jane and I relished the cool mountain air. My parents love the dry desert heat and it is obvious from the number of people that live in the Phoenix area that many people love that climate. After spending summers in the mountains of North Carolina, we are hooked on the crisp, clean mountain air.



Combine that climate with the scenic wonders of the west and you have the magical mountain town of Sedona. We had an excellent lunch at a little Mexican Cantina that nestled in one of the cutest shopping villages I have seen. Built along a creek shaded by huge sycamore trees, the many shoppes and walkways of the quaint development were picture perfect. The feel of the little shopping district reminded me of the hill towns of Tuscany. However, this was literally built around the huge trees and they provided a shade and ambience that was something completely different from the hill towns of Tuscany.



All through the rest of the bustling town there were an eclectic mix of many small shoppes filled with local artisans making all manner of art from paintings, pottery, tiles and sculpture to furniture and iron work. Also, we saw many spiritual readers, massage therapists and herbal remedies which were right alongside very high-end spas and million dollar homes. The streets were crowded with plenty of tourists and the atmosphere was friendly and fun. All of this is surrounded by beautiful red rock formations and scenic mountains.



After spending several hours exploring Sedona we continued north. Next stop Grand Canyon!

Oh, Arizona!!!
Jane- I'm still alive and will write to you soon. Sedona is such a special place! When you go to the Canyon, go to both rims - the South and the North. The North Rim is all forests and trees and muledeer and totally different than the South Rim. Thanks so much for continuing the travel blog...I'm with you in spirit! Love you two!
